  • New Style of Mitt Work

So guys what happened to the good old mitt workout ?
Nowadays every trainer I see on the internet is doing this choreographed type of mittwork where they train very long combinations.

Where does it come from and should i also do it( if yes why is it better)?

If you're going to do that type of mitt work start here, so that you see where it comes from and what it's meant to do.

So I only need an answer to why everybody is doing it nowadays?

Is there a specific reason behind it, besides imitating Floyd

Well, you are practicing your offensive combinations while at the same time practicing your defensive reactions in a seamless sequence. And it's not just something choreographed that you simply memorize, the mitt holder can feed different punches at different points so that you have to think and adjust on the fly. Making it close to what you might experience in a real fight.

Of course Floyd doing it has a lot to do with the popularity of this style of mitt work. He was the best fighter of his generation so if he found this type of training useful then it's only natural that other people are going to try to copy it.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Honestly I just jumped on the "new school" type mitt work for my boys. I seen a poster put a video up of Virgil hunter explaining a shoulder tap that Roger Mayweather teaches and it really has done wonders for my boys reflex. So with that said, if you are lacking anywhere in your game, I say why not change some things up and start building the muscle memory right away...
