  • Why does such a small island like Puerto Rican give Mexico such hardship?

Shouldn't Mexico be dominating Puerto Rico in boxing considering the sizes of the two countries? But instead it seems that Puerto Rico not only holds its own, but they are constantly giving Mexico L's.

    Very interesting how that works...

I'm not taunting anyone. I'm just wondering why Puerto Rico is able to give so many L's to Mexican fighters when Mexico trumps them in size by a considerable amount.

How come China or India doesn't dominate at boxing? It goes beyond population

Puerto Rico isn't a country, it's an American commonwealth. Many people think Mexican American boxers represent Mexico which is false. That's like saying every black fighter represents the African continent...oh wait..I think the US govt. still loves that belief.

Also, people don't realize that the Mexican war battles of the Alamo was Mexicans opposed to black slavery in the southern territories of the USA. This is thought is Mexican education, but the USA blankets that history and just call it a territorial dispute.

Mexicans fought against black slavery. That should put a smile on some black folk.

Mexican fans aren't so keen on Cuban fighters either. Not sure what it's about really.

Well to be fair, Mexicans have been dominating lately. I think most Mexican-Americans count because it's not really just about the nationality, it's really about the culture that's -tied in to the nationality, and most Mexican-Americans are very proud of their Mexican roots and are brought up with similar values, which include boxing and the Mexican school of boxing.

That's also why China, India, and we can even throw Indonesia for fun here aren't as dominant as Mejico and the US in boxing. It's not a nationality or a race that makes you good at boxing, it's all about how much your culture embraces the sport, the school of boxing in that place, and how many people actually take up boxing.

Mexico and Puerto Rico both embrace boxing as part of their cultures, but obviously there's a huge discrepancy in numbers which results in the varying statistics for both Nations in the sport. The US still has a significant representation of their population that embraces boxing, but it's so big that it doesn't even matter if it's just a hand full of segments that actively embrace the sport of boxing, the US is still a key player in the sport.

tou could say the same thing about cuba dominatiting the olympics from the whole world. geographical, population size or race has nothing to do with being good in the sport

Puerto Rican is not an island. Puerto Rico is. What hardships are you referring too?
