  • Right handed, left leg

    Hi everyone,

i am new here, i want to ask you guys about my stance. Because i have more power with my right arm than left arm, but the problem is i am left foot... so its like i am worried that i am not using all my power punch of the right hand because of my right foot... i mean the power delivery from my right foot is weaker than my left foot to the arms, so i am really confused and i dont know what to do right now. I am using a orthodox stance (left foot forward and right foot back). What i really need is to adapt my right leg like my left leg, how can i do it? is it possible? I am 5'8 feet tall (173 cm) weight 190 pounds, all the guys in my weight are taller so i need to do like a little squat to punch them and the power from the legs and hips are what makes my punches stronger. So please if you have some tips of how to get my right leg stronger or same as left, tell me please. Sorry for my english, not my natal languaje.

You just gotta keep at it, bud. Try both stances and see which one you feel is more comfortable. Once that happens, start perfecting your craft.

I tried another stance, but the punch power aint the same with the left hand back. I think the only way to improve with my right leg is training and training it, with weight and with the heavy bag.

          Thank you sir.

Well I guess working on the technique on the heavybag and a lot of repitions can help a great deal, there are also excercises to improve leg strength for boxers, normally strength and conditioning coaches can tell you a couple, kinda like in American football but whatever you do try to avoid weight training as much as you can, plus u shouldn't only punch while your feet are planted, you should also learn how to punch on the move, so you need to find yourself a good trainer that can do mitt work for you while moving forward and backward and he should also observe ur technique while you're doing it.

Weights can make ur muscles big and stiff and u can't lose muscle weight so easily, so if u develop heavy muscles in ur legs you won't be able to come down to the weight that u should naturally fight at and you will be exhausted after a couple of rounds because u r carrying a lot of unnecassry muscles around, a perfect boxer's body is like an inversed triangle, slim legs, wide shoulders and long reach, one of the reasons Canelo struggles with weight and stamina is because of his heavy legs cuz he used to play a lot of soccer.

Thank you for the answer. My style of boxing is like Mike Tyson stance (i know i am not the same but its the stance that i feel more comfortable with), so i though having big muscles improvinmg my speed i could have big punching power and hit harder. I am punching like i have a baseball bat in my hands, the same i do with my arms using my legs and hips.

If you have any suggestion or critic, just tell me. Thank you again.

I'm left handed but right footed. . . I used to train in Orthodox stance though.

Cant have my left hand back and right forward, i need to use my right hand back, have more power in my punches. What confuses me is the foot thing.. i think i will try to work on my right leg more.

You can still use that stance. You'd have to focus your attacks more to accommodate your lead hand being your stronger hand though so stronger hooks, jabs and upper cuts.
