  • [PLEASE HELP] Melatonin.

I've been taking melatonin to help sleep since I believe, 2007. I'm worried my body has stopped naturally producing it.

From what I've read you should be fine. There are also pretty much no side effects so you don't have to stop taking it. Consult your doctor though.

I slept well every night last week without taking a single melatonin. I guess that means my body's still producing it.

The sleep aid that I'm taking only has 1.5 mgs of melatonin.

Dude wtf you made this thread like a month ago.... I told you, STOP taking it! You're just gonna make it worse! I gave you some natural steps you can do to try and go to sleep without it until you get over it needing it. wake up at 6AM starting tomorrow... or as early as you need to, to be able to fall asleep earlier at night. reset your sleeping cycle.

Stop taking it bro! ANY "substance" can and will mess with brain chemistry if you take it too often, especially those in which the body already naturally produces. Yes you probably did mess up your bodies natural production of melatonin.

Just like how some drugs trigger a dopamine release when you take them, since your body naturally produces dopamine...... you keep taking it like you are melantonin since 2007, and it affects your natural production.

What if my body isn't producing it on its own anymore?

If you are having trouble sleeping, you're either trying to sleep too much or aren't getting restful sleep. There are many things that could keep you from getting restful sleep. Go to the doctor.

I'm not a doctor and I'm not sure if natural production of something like that can completely stop.... BUT if that were the case..... IMO the only way to counter that is by stop taking the melatonin pills!

Trust me bro. Look I'm not your doctor, but I saw your thread about a month ago and it seems to be a real problem for you. Your best bet is to just quit it, period.

Like I told you before..... have trouble sleeping cause you stopped taking it? Get your diet in check, eat green veggies, and reset your sleeping cycle. Just start tomorrow. I don't know what your work/school schedule is like, but if you can... wake up at 5/6AM, drink some coffee and do what you gotta do to stay up and start your day. And by night time, hopefully you'll get tired earlier and fall asleep. Do this for about 7 days and you might "reset" your sleeping cycle and you won't need the melatonin.

But regardless of how long it takes to get good sleep without taking it, you should stop taking it first and foremost, then go from there. IMO. Interfering with brain chemistry by taking substances that your body already produces can create major imbalances and lead to huge problems, when abused.
