  • When I used to spar with bigger guys in the Gym I used to run

And never, not even for one second did I think I was winning anything.

Sure I would land occasioanally a few jabs and 1-2s, but it was because I was so negative and not trying to make the fight. Tried to avoid it actually.

That's what Lara did and to call it an amateur style is an insult to amateur boxing because in amateur boxing if you're that negative like Lara was last night, you get warnings and eventually you get points deducted.

Lara should be blacklisted for that pathetic showing.

I am a fan of Rigo but Rigo can stand his ground and you just don't just run in on him like that.

Lara deserves nothing but blame. He is a world and olympic champion in amateurs, he's an established well respected champion at the pro ranks and to run like that? I don't remember any other fight at that level where a fighter ran so blatantly the entire fight. Not one! And I've been watching boxing for 18 years now.

Why is it the fighters who apparently spend more time running always seem to outland their opponents?

He ran yet Ginger Spice was the one left looking he'd gone through a windmill

Even when he stood in the pocket Conelo wasn't landing **** but the odd few bodyshots. This is boxing, hit and not get hit.
Not stand in front of your opponent swinging like a caveman.

Blah, blah, blah. Stick to the point. Lara is an embarassement to the Cuban community.

I would if I actually could understand the point you was trying to make. He 'ran' so what.

What next are we going to penalise fighters like Miguel Vasquez etc for excessive movement? There is a 20ft ring, use it!
Everybody already knew that is how he fights, its not some shocking revelation, its his style and has been for 20 years.

How is it Lara's fault Canelo couldn't cut the ring off and was just lunging in throwing wild shots missing by a country mile?

Did Chris Algieri lose too seeing he just 'ran' and jabbed and didn't stand toe to toe with some crude ass slugger? Is he an embarrassment to the American community?

Yeah and NSB logic dictates if you don't take any damage you are a coward.

Rigo boxes, Lara has shown he isn't someone that can box effectively for 12 rounds, he show us that when he fought Vanes and when he allowed a brawler like Angulo almost KO Him out. Rigo boxes, moves and land both powershots and jabs on you, Lara jabs and then moves without attempting to land any power shot on you.

It's sad that the technical aspects of boxing have been taken over by this term running...don't get me wrong, Lara ran, he literally turned his back on Canelo at points and ran to the other side of the ring, or he ran side to side in a poor, very poor imitation of Leonard or Ali, fact is, when a truly technical boxer moves, he also throws out a jab and uses that to set up combinations.

Lara did that for a while, all 3 early rounds but I dunno, maybe it was the body work, ****iness or he just lost concentration but he let the rounds slip by moving, moving, moving, getting caught and not landing significant punches of his own.

Some of the commentators were talking about ring generalship, it's not ring generalship if you don't land punches. Rigo is a prime example of a good mover who also throws punches and does it consistently, Floyd, Pac, Bradley are all good examples too.

You're right and what I think is happening is that many of the people who thought Lara would win b/c they think he's the better boxer or b/c they don't like Canelo DID not expect Lara to RUN like THAT.

So they had their bias for Lara and now they are ignoring the fact that Lara fought too negative, was a spoiler and just did not want to fight running, holding and complaining the entire fight. I have not seen a more cowardly performance for 12 rounds in a fight of this magnitude.

Lara was in a survival mode and landing a few jabs and few 1-2s does not erase the fact that you're running and clinching for your life.

Canelo's that bad that he doesn't even have to throw punches and Lara runs.

My thoughts exactly, Lara's movement may have been excessive but he was throwing and landing far more up top than Canelo. It was an extremely close fight and could've gone either way.
