  • Right hand left shoulder style

Some people from my gym keep their right hand by the left side of their face/shoulder and their left hand on the body. Kinda like mayweather but than the right hand on the left side. I use it sometimes aswel and it kinda works, but I havent seen any pros use this style. Does anyone know a Pro that keeps their right hand to the left side? Thx!

maybe only do that when you know a lead hook isnt coming... or u can see hooks very easily... or u know its gonna be a dedicated/committed jab exchange.. otherwise, this sounds dangerous..?
and im not sure what exactly you're talking about, but do you mean something like froch does when he jabs?

uhm yea kinda, Froch did it for a few seconds. Meldrick Taylor did to it alot in his fight against Julio Chavez : www[.]youtube[.]com/watch?v=m9zKwGeHIgM .
It did work for him in that fight. Even tho he lost trough a stoppage in the last 2 seconds of the fight lmao..

I use this style at times but I am not a pro, only AM. I alternate between a shell and a peekaboo stance depending on who I am fighting/sparring, and what is going on in the fight. I feel I can throw well all my punches from all my variations but some are more fluid and are a better base for certain combinations than others. I like advancing with a shell and retreating with a peekaboo, the opposite of what many fighters do, on purpose.

So many people think you are going defensive when you shell up, so when I explode from the shell in a vicious combination and push them back, it confuses people with less experience, experience is everything in a fight.

If I see it works, I will abuse you with it until you figure out how to stop it and then change it up, OR, I will save it like a card up my sleeve so if you get me in trouble I know what to pull out to reset your mind and confuse you again.

          boxing is chess.

So thats the name for it, a shell? I also switch my styles up, it does work against some fighters. But indeed experience is everything, if I spar against older people that box longer they just exploit the ''Shell'.

Well its a shell style but there are different versions of the shell and small nuances can havea big impact to your game.

              How are they exploiting it?

When I can't roll fast enough I start dropping down with my legs to that lower level like sweet pea and I can work to the body or come up with uppercuts and jabs or maybe use my legs to get distance and make him reset.

If I am getting hit to the body repeatedly I counter, because the body is the easiest for me to protect as a fighter so if I can't protect my body I need to get out of there or start letting my hands go, I have fast hands so when I land a few they tend to cover up and give me time.

If I am getting bullied and roughed up around the shoulders and chest but my head movement is keeping them guessing, I stay inside and just try and outwork them with good combinations upstairs and downstairs and beat them at their own game.

If nothing is working from the shell and I am getting tagged and snapped back because they are either faster or have better timing I have no problems switching to a peekaboo stance and giving them different looks, I usually do that anyway to keep them guessing but if all else fails use the ring to your advantage and move to desirable spots and don't let them set in.
