Did anyone watch this guy fight?

Dwight Muhammad Qawi - lost to Foreman, Holyfield x2 at cruiserweight, Michael Spinks, and beat Leon Spinks.

Mainly amuses me because of his 5ft 5 height, imagine someone like him in the current heavyweight era in terms of the high volume of really tall guys.

However, if anyone actually saw him fight, how did he overcome his short stature to still achieve a moderate amount of success?

Here's an interesting article about him from 1981, talking about his WBC light heavyweight title win after spending 7 of his first 25 years in prison for armed robbery.

His first fight against Holyfield was great. He treated Holyfield with no respect even though he lost.

I've watched bits of it, gonna sit down and watch the whole fight, probably both, in full when I have some time. But he does look like an entertaining fighter for sure, that 'bowling ball' analogy someone mentioned works pretty well

DMQ was a damn good LHW, a division which he was also small in, but managed to fight "small" and was a buzz saw like his nickname indicated.

I'd say he had a pretty good career, particularly at 175 when it was a strong era. Also, IIRC, Qawi never had an amateur career....

I'd say he had a pretty good career, particularly at 175 when it was a strong era. Also, IIRC, Qawi never had an amateur career....

Interesting, he's certainly impressive in terms of overcoming physical limitations to still be successful, had a lot of courage too to be so small but fight dangerous guys like Foreman in his career. And if he had no AM background, it makes it all the more impressive. Natural fighter. Thanks for your input.

Ah yeah, I heard about him too..."Miraculous Matthew" - he was known for getting wins from the brink of defeat and was in many exciting bouts...apparently his mum died when he was an infant and his aunt looked after him and his brother until she told his bro to get rid of him...the brother took him somewhere and left him and ran away, then he was fostered. Interesting character and story...
