  • Serious question... how did Golovkin's popularity rise so fast?

Sure he's knocking people out... but only one KO this year had been on HBO, the other being in Monaco. Rosado was just a one sided beat down as well as Stevens. Proksa was last year and a couple of months removed from his Rosado fight

How the hell did he go from the lowest ratings to one of the highest for HBO?

Like somebody said earlier... he doesn't have the same exciting style as Pacquio who's quick and throws flurries. He doesn't have the same ethnic following Canelo has with the Mexicans considering their presence here in the U.S and Mexico being right below the U.S.

He comes forward and beats ass... how the hell did he get so popular so fast? There are plenty of other fighters who come forward and beat ass too and they're not pulling in these kind of numbers.

I don't know how big the Kazakh ethnicity is in the U.S, but unless it's huge, I don't see it being a huge driving force.

How the hell is this happening?

It factor. The look. The smile. The charisma. The fighting style.

People like uniqueness. HBO is marketing him perfectly.

So what does that have to do with more than doubling his viewership?

He fights like a middleweight Sonny Liston only instead of a scowling he smiles and calls his opponents good boys after beating their ass ... what's not to like?

I guess he's producing what casuals love best, knockouts. But THurman is doing that too (bar his fight with Zavec), Rios too was a little hurricane of appealing brawling. Hell, even Broner when he was beating down the smaller guys.

So what you're saying the more they see, the more interested they're in?
He put up huge numbers on his fourth HBO show

I'm buying into the hype off the fact that he's battering who he has to the way everyone thinks he should. He comes to fight, has a fun style to watch and gets the job done. I don't think he's the best out there, nor do I think he can beat a guy like ward if they ever fought, but he's a guy that boxing should want as one of their premiere fighters to carry the sport for the next few years
