  • Just rewatched Floyd vs Guerrero, Floyd is declining and will lose before he retires

Everyone seemed to worship Mayweather after this performance but I have to say I'm not wholly convinced. Guerrero of course was simply overmatched in speed, reflexes, power etc, he had only 2 previous fights at 147 and was the naturally smaller guy.

In the first 2 rounds Floyd definitely showed a lot of ring rust, Guerrero tried to let Floyd press the action instead of applying tons of pressure like many other Floyd opponents, and he was successful in landing some good counter body shots.

After that Floyd shook off the rust and overmatched him with his superior speed and reflexes but it's hard to describe what I saw but something was missing with Floyd, his punches were sharp but he seems to get trapped a lot more than usual and I saw some of the issues he had with Cotto in this fight. I can't quite pin down what it is but I see decline, It's the body movement I think, the lateral movement just doesn't seem to be as crispy .

Guerrero did some good work on the inside when he could and I think his body shots were impressive, he didn't jab enough and should have basically focused on the counter shots to the body throughout the fight and jabbing upstairs. I actually give more credit to Guerrero after re watching the fight and I think he did really well for his level of ability and for the attributes he possesses, I gave him 4 rounds.

Floyd always stands in corners and potshots that's his thing he did it to hatton Mosley Ortiz cotto he back him self up lands a counter or two and go back to the center of the ring question is can Canelo keep him from escaping.

I can't pin it down man, but something isn't there anymore, I think Canelo might win this if he comes in at 154.

canelo cherry picked a shot mayweather and forced him to come up to 152. such a joke.

Hmm interesting. I haven't watched it since that night and i thought Floyd looked pretty damn good. Was impressed how he kept the pace up for all 12 rounds.
Canelo's best chance is to cut off the ring and get him on the ropes to put in some body work. If he lets him Floyd will be content pot shotting and running and winning rounds. Floyd's not coming to fight but if he has lost a step he may not have a choice.

I certainly agree with Guerrero did a bit better than people might like to make out. I also felt a lot of his bodyshots went unnoticed.

Canelo will not do as good as Guerrero did though IMHO
Guerrero's a southpaw, he has faster feet & let his hands go. He took risks, too many in fact and Canelo just isn't that fighter.
Hes flat-footed as you can get and way too patient. Floyds going to pick that kid apart like nobodies business. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Gatti all over again.

I know what you mean. His legs didn't look "lively" in the beginning. He loosened up as the fight went on. Got his rhythm in the 3rd.

That's it, he's lost a step. I think Canelo will have success because he has a good defense, he can avoid his punches in the center of the ring and rip shots to the body on the ropes, no offense to Guerrero but I just don't really rate him that much, he had 2 fights at 147 1 against a very overrated bum in Berto and for his ability he did surprisingly well.

                    4 rounds? That's awfully generous.

I think I know what you mean though. Floyd's fight with Corrales showed us how he likes to use those four corners to avoid heavy hitters. Cotto had success by cutting Floyd off and get his work in against the ropes since Floyd couldn't escape.

It looked like Floyd was trying to use those same movements in the Guerrero fight, and you could make the argument that his lateral skills are on the decline, but a loss doesn't seem too likely on the horizon in my opinion. Not simply because of that.

Now maybe if him and Matthysse......
