    Story from the net.

A Florida woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison for firing a warning shot at her allegedly abusive husband. Claiming self-defense, just as George Zimmerman did in the Trayvon Martin shooting trial, a jury convicted Marissa Alexander of Jacksonville of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Alexander, 31, said she feared for her life when she fired a bullet into the wall of her home in August 2010. The Jacksonville mother of three had a protective order against her husband.

No one was hurt in the shooting, but a jury found her guilty on May 11, and she was given the mandatory minimum sentence under the gun law: 20 years.

Alexander had never been in trouble with the law before, but Circuit Court Judge James Daniel said he wouldn’t allow for any circumstances to reduce the sentence below the 20-year minimum.

On Saturday, an all-female jury found George Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the Sanford, Fla., shooting death of an unarmed 17-year-old, Trayvon Martin. There was no dispute as to whether Zimmerman shot and killed Martin. Instead, the jury considered whether Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, was justified in his use of deadly force, which by Florida state law means force "necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm."

Zimmerman waived his right to a “Stand Your Ground” pretrial immunity hearing, CNN reported, and attorneys went forward with the trial as a self-defense case. When Alexander’s attorney made an appeal to reconsider her case under the “Stand Your Ground” law, the judge denied to grant her a new trial.

State Attorney Angela Corey, who oversaw the prosecution of George Zimmerman, stood by the Alexander sentencing, according to Press TV. Corey believes that Alexander aimed the gun at her husband. She argues that the bullet fired could have ricocheted and hit him or others in the room.

Zimmerman was outdoors in a densely populated neighborhood when he shot Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman also had previous run-ins with the law. He was arrested in 2005 and charged with "resisting officer with violence" and "battery of law enforcement officer."

The girl's wasn't a high profile case, and she didn't have a world class defense team working on her side for the publicity. That's the difference.

The world's a ****ed up place. There's no such thing as fairness or justice those words are just bedtime stories. Power and money are the only things that matter, the only things that are real.

Don't be fooled by the media. What the news articles aren't posting is the actual deposition which states, by her admission, that she had plenty of chances of escaping her husband as they were arguing. She went to another room to get the gun and then went back to the room her husband was and fired the shots.

Bottom Line rule i have when u pull out a weapon when there is some type of disturbance with another person , u shoot to kill .it would be stupid to just fire the gun on a warning shot then the other person has there chance in court to present their case.rather get judged by 12 (or 6 depending on the state ) than be carried by 6 pall bearers.
As far as this issue , it's comparing apples to oranges, I don't know the whole story but from the excerpt that was kindly provided in the thread the female was not being beaten in a "serious deadly manner "to where it was a life and death situation.

Looking very carefully at the image, i'd have to say it is obvious the law favors Hispanic men over Chinese women.

Bull****, the state had no case against him. Just because it looks like a murder from watching the media report it, doesn't mean it in fact was a murder. The jury found him not guilty, and people are mad because they are letting their emotions get in the way. The state could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did what he was accused of, and people want him in jail?

I reviewed all the evidence for myself, and no matter how you look at it. It was Zimmerman's incorrect vigilante actions that caused the death of an innocent that could have been prevented if zimmerman just stayed in his car and waited for the police. I could not consider myself an intelligent human being if I let emotion get in the way of my judgement.

The reason that the trial went the way it did is because the defense team crafted a masterpiece defense. The way the defense lawyer handled the case and flipped the prosecutions witnesses against them, and the way the prosecution crumbled under the pressure was just so skillfully done.

The defense's craftiness and proficiency in doing their job doesn't make zimmerman any less guilty if you review all the facts for yourself.

Yea it probably would have been prevented if he stayed in his car but he didn't have to, that's the point. He technically did nothing illegal that lead to his death, he just seemed to have more confidence to do such a thing because he was carrying a firearm

The reason the trial went the way it did was because the state had nothing, they were simply pressured by the media and public to arrest and charge him. When the lead cop/investigator says the incident appeared to be a case of self defense, you're probably not going to convict him
