  • Imagine This: No Klitschkos

Imagine if, by the end of this year, both Klitschkos were to retire, who do you think would pick up the mantle as THE heavyweight champion of the world? Who would hold which title? Would the division be fractured like it was through the mid 80s?

I personally think Haye would end up winning a portion of the title. The likes of Povetkin, Pulev and Fury could pick up the other belts and I really don't see any promoters willing to put their biggest names against each other. The title would be split until someone with enough balls decided to put everything on the line. That guy could actually end up being Fury, he had the balls but probably not the skills. I can see Pulev Knocking him out.

    What do you guys think?

But couldn't these at least be entertaining and more evenly matched? It would add some degree of excitement to the division.

Also, love him or hate him, Haye is no bum and neither are the likes of Pvetkin, Pulev and Fury. All these guys know how to fight.

That's how I see it. Say what you will about the K Brothers, but, amongst other things, they provide cohesion. As with Larry Holmes, they'll be missed when they're gone.

More excitement and more competitive title fights. Its not the klitchkos faults they were just born in the wrong era

There's zero ambition among the contenders. They're unprepared to fight each other for mandatory status. It's sick, really. They all recognize the Klitschkos' are a level above.

When the K-bros retire, it'll be a sad day for the HW division. We'll get some competitive fights, for sure, but the standard will drop markedly.

Very hard to imagine for me. The division wouldn't even be worth watching imo. It will truly be a sad day for boxing when the K2 bros retire.

even the non-Klitschko top 10 heavies would splatter the famed PFP list all over the ring. Bums indeed...

I can see Haye taking one of the titles and just sitting on it, perhaps even being forced to vacate if they put a credible mandatory in his way.

there would be around 3-4 HOF fighters right now....

the thing is the Klitschkos are so superior and dominant that they squash any possible threat or future HOF.

It hasn't been worth watching "with them" thats the problem! I can't say that I'll miss them.
Yes we've had era's that were weak but atleast the Champs were exciting! After Joe Louis cleaned his division out he atleast put on exciting bouts and offered the shot at all comers! Marciano did the same and again fought exciting bouts! The Klitz are boring and thats the way its been. I give them credit for being successful but I draw the line there! In time they won't be missed and they won't be remembered as anything special! Ray
