  • ESPN Reporting: Manny Pacquiao In Financial Trouble... Wow

Yesterday, we told you about how Floyd Mayweather was just named the highest-earning athlete of 2013 by Sports Illustrated. Unfortunately, we can't say the same for Manny Pacquiao.

Although he's enjoyed a long, lucrative boxing career, it sounds like Pacman's bank account is slowly inching closer and closer to zero. Because of all the business investments he has made over the years—and because he doesn't seem to pay close attention to his money like Mayweather does—he could be broke within the next couple of years. It's reportedly one of the reasons he wants to continue boxing and one of the reasons that, in all reality, he needs to continue doing it in order to survive.

"Manny has clearly lost the zeal for boxing that he once had," journalist Ted Lerner says in an ESPN piece published late yesterday. "Before, he used to fight for the love of fighting, and the money seemed secondary. Now he is obviously fighting for only one reason: money."

Is this true? Is Manny really that hard up for cash right now? Read the rest of the ESPN story to see why it does sound like the former champ is headed down the wrong path when it comes to his finances. We just hope he doesn't continue boxing simply because he needs the money. That's no way for a great boxer like him to go out—and it could have a terrible impact on his health at some point down the line.

This was talked about by people for years on the forums, and no one believed it. He gets screwed by Arum and I'm not sure he even knows how much he makes at the end of the day just gets a check and nods. He invests in everything and seems to waste his money on a major scale. It is sorta sad but, it seemed to be that way when he was looking for a Cotto rematch at a CW of a guy he A. already beat, and B. just got whitewashed by Mayweather. That was purely for money so it shouldn't be much of a shock....just sad.

I hope Pac gets it together. He needs to fire some people in his inner circle. I would start with his adviser.

it's possible. he won't be the first or last boxer to get rich and lose it all. if they aren't looking at his finances themselves, or speaking to somebody who is, they cannot say for sure.

unless he owns a bunch of properties and they're all boarded up

Bob Arum's gonna be using him as a stepping stone in a couple years. I've never been a Pac fan but I hate when great fighters fight too long just because they need the money.

I knew something was up when he claimed to buy a new home in Vegas before the Cotto fight and it turned out to be Konz house instead.
Guy is putting up appearances by claiming to buy a Ferrari on 24/7 when rumors are he is deep in debt to Arum before and after every fight.
Who turns down $40 million to fight Floyd when your usually making half that?

He should have left Top Rank long ago. It sucks to hear this.

it's sad how these boxers blow their money. it seems like this is the trend with many boxers. they go broke at the end of their career then they just fight for money. I hate to see these guys suffer same fate as holyfield or even Roy jones.
