I am massively stoked for this. I used to read Judge Dredd in the hallowed pages of 2000 AD when I was a kid (in the 80s the year 2000 seemed so very futuristic... WHERE'S MY JETPACK!?) and finally it looks like they're going to do a proper job of it.

With review comments like

we're launched into a gritty and incredibly violent Mega City as Dredd and rookie Judge Anderson fight their way through a kilometre-high tower block assailed by perps high on Slo-Mo, a narcotic whose main effect is to make gunfights look really cool.

and

The violence here is graphic and gory, taking full advantage of that R rating.

It looks like it might be a good film.

No, it isn't a remake. Any more than Sam Raimi's Spider Man was a remake of the 70s TV show.
