  • Was Foreman ever knocked down in a sparring session?

I could swear I have a childhood memory of George getting knocked down in a sparring session. But, I'm not sure at what exact time it was or if it just a hoax. Perhaps it was sometime between 87-90?!

Marciano now way, he only fought good competition after they were waaaaayyyyy past their prime. There is really no way to Judge Marciano accomplishments because he never fought top level competition when they were at their prime. He only has names on his resume, but he fought those names when they were old and had plenty of mileage.

Ezzard Charles 33 or 34 and he was pretty much shot then
Joe Lewis Age 37 and he was shot then
      Archie Moore Age 38

I'm not saying Marciano was a bum far from it. I would never call any fighter a Bum. But he resume is very weak. He only has names on his resume. Had he fought any of the three fighters mentioned above in their prime I think the outcome would have been very different.

Think about it. I think Ron Artest would kill Jordan in a Game of One on One right now.

The dude has read mintcar's sig where he places Marciano as the number one heavyweight and thought the thread was about that, maybe?

I'm fairly certain Foreman was never knocked down in sparring. We hear enough about how Liston was the only man to ever back him up, we'd certainly have heard of him being knocked down?

Hmm.. I never did hear of a Joe Lewis that Marciano fought?? This thread is not about who I think should be the top heavies ever. Thats just my signature and my opinion. I will explain why I feel the way I do in another thread being you seem to be upset about it..

I've never heard of it mate. His eye did take a nasty slicing from the elbow of one of his sparring partners in Zaire though.

The hardest that George said he was hit in his comeback was by Gerry Cooney, who rocked him slightly. A knockdown in sparring would I'm sure have found the public domain, in the same way that Greg Page's knockdown of Tyson in sparring did.

You know I'm thinking it may have even been right before his 2nd career started when he was still rusty. But, I'm pretty sure it was the '80's. I know I'm not crazy. Theres gotta be a film of it somewhere.

I've never read about it, that I recall. Its the sort of thing that you'd expect George to have put in his own biography to almost build the drama of his comeback.

As for film.....if You Tube hasn't got it by now, I won't expect it anytime soon.
