  • Got hit with a nasty virus...can anyone help?

Was saving boxing pics on my laptop and IE ended up closing and would not re-open. I also could not re-open firefox, spybot search and destroy and my anti-virus was messing up for a few min.'s. I turned off the internet connection and started running a virus scan. There was an icon on the desktop that was a shortcut that said Internet Security when I tried right clicking on it it wouldnt let me do anything on the desktop. After a while i tried right clicking on it again and it said shortcut is for a unknown destination in the system or something like that like the file was deleted. IE started working again as well as spybot. Please help.

I had Internet Security for a month. Nothing would remove it, it would redirect me when I click on Google links. rkill didn't work, Malwarebytes/Anti Malware didn't work, Combofix didn't work. And by not working, I mean it would "remove" it, or "quarantine" the viruses, but the viruses come back immediately. They were rootkit viruses, backdoor viruses, worms and trojans.

Then, I ran in to this baby right here:

        http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208280684

It's called TDSSKiller. It's supposedly a rootkit remover, but it just happened to remove ALL of the viruses in my PC, and now I have been virus-free for 2 weeks. No google redirect, no internet security forcing scans, nothing.

I'm telling you, for a guy who's not very good with PC's, and has tried all kinds of virus removers...this is by far the best thing I have downloaded for my viruses. Try it, if it doesn't work, then maybe some one else here will recommend something better. But I think it doesn't get any better than tsskiller.

Just scroll down a bit to where it says this:

          Disinfection of an infected system

Download the file TDSSKiller.zip and extract it (use archiver, for example, WInZip) into a folder on the infected (or potentially infected) PC.

          Execute the file TDSSKiller.exe.

Wait for the scan and disinfection process to be over. It is necessary to reboot the PC after the disinfection is over.

Run your antivirus on when your comp is on safe mode but be quick since some viruses intrude safemode after a couple minutes ....

i have malwarebytes , Ccleaner , and avast all free programs i recommend you run all three

Ccleaner first , malwarebytes then avast .....

If you dont have programs download them on safe mode and try running them on safe mode ..

                  good luck

Sometimes viruses are so bad it wont even allow you to system restore .

I recommend safe mode for those with viruses so bad it wont even open programs ......

But yeah if it lets you system restore its usually not a bad virus and that should quickly fix it .
