  • Advice please :)

    Alright,
Looking for advice on a few things please...
Firstly i get my running shoes on monday so will start roadwork then. How far do you think i should run? Aim for a solid 30 mins? or try go until i am dropping? :P just to gage how i am at the minute?
And... I train twice a week at my club... As of next week i will be training with an army boxing team when i can doing "boxing skills" as they train for fights in march. Probably 3 times next week i can do it,
What work would you suggest that i do at home? I can go down to a sportshall most day and have access to a heavy bag.
I am not very good at uppercuts and body shots, but i am fairly confident in my jabs and backhands and i am currently working on good form of them.
But yeah... what can i do? Any suggestions ???
    Thanks!

For the running I find its best to track speed and distance, so that you have a measuring point to compare improvements.

If you just aim for 30 mins you might end up running it at too slow a pace. Three miles in half an hour is no workout for a budding boxer.

Just my opinion, but I think that competence begins with 7 minute miles. To start with I'd see if you can run 4 laps of a standard 400m circuit in under 7 minutes ( Thats 1 min 45 seconds a lap ). Then over the weeks and months build up the distance you can run at this pace up to say 5 miles in 35 minutes. Then try trimming the 5 mile distance to a close to 30 mins as possible....or better if you can.

You can break up your weekly routines with quarter mile reps/ half mile reps with a short rest 1-2 mins, or hill reps to keep things fresh.

Alternate your workouts between longer distances at moderate speeds, and intervals/sprints at full speed.

Then work your core and do plyometrics at home. Oh and shadowboxing
