  • Can David Haye find redemption and earn the fans respect?

As a British fight fan, and ex boxer myself, I supported David Haye tooth and nail throughout his HW campaign, and indeed was expressively vocal about my confidence in him beating WK in their much anticipated clash back in July.

Therefore after the fight I was feeling a mixture of fury towards his lack of effort. I felt he cheated and mocked me and of course i felt great embarrassment for the things I’d said leading up to the fight (none more so than comments on this very forum).

I took this on the chin, and apologised (particularly to wladisthechamp), licked my wounds and moved on.

However, i am a sucker for a happy ending.

The ONLY thing David can do to save his reputation is to continue fighting, and winning and winning WELL. Keeping his mouth shut and letting his fists talk for him.

I personally would be prepared to forgive and forget July’s abomination were he to lace them up again and challenge Povetkin, or take a fight with VK (who I believe would happily offer the fight). Even a good domestic battle with David Price, or Tyson Fury would generate huge interest on our shores

Forget ‘slave contracts’, forget money – he’s got enough already – all those £15.00 PPV costs us Brit’s spent, he’s set up for life now.

David, for YOUR own sake, come back and fight. Strive to be remembered as a man with courage who was prepared to go into the trenches, show your metal. Show us you are a LION, an Englishman with guts.

If he slips away now under the radar i will be exceptionally disappointed.

    Don't worry, he'll be back.

All that talk about retirement was just head games.

I think he'll take the rest of 2011 off though, and return in 2012 against Rahman, Holyfield or Povetkin.

I travelled to Hamburg, yet expected a dull fight. But i couldnt of predicted that non-performance from Haye. I actually wanted him to lose just because i didnt like the way he conducted himself.

After watching a video showing him getting stopped a couple of times, i realised that he has worked very hard as a fighter to get to the top. So i respect him just for that. Yet i couldnt care less if he ever fights again.
I think he is reaping what he sowed. And if he is remembered as a hype job and an embarrassment, its his own doing.
I dont think he would fight Vitali for all the money in the world. At HW he lacks heart.
Only that fight would redeem him.

Nothing personal, but Haye has become a complete joke. Vitali has been calling him out and giving him a shot at redemption that he doesn't even deserve, and guess what?

"I have no beef with Vitali."

I wouldn't mind seeing him again though, he's an interesting HW, lot's of trash talk, popular topic of debate in forums. Bring it on!

He says on his FB page that an announcement is coming soon. I think he is holding out til after Saturday to see what happens.

If Adamek somehow springs a shock David will announce a comeback but if Vitali wins in style as expected it wouldnt surprise me if Haye called it a day citing the 31st brithday as his reason.

He could go for Povetkin but ultimatley he doesnt get redemption until he fights a Klitschko and gives it a better effort.

Ive never liked the ****ing prick. He should stay in his bath tub thats filled with the earnings he got from the Wlad fight.

Vitali's called him out many times. I always said he wanted no part of the grim reaper. A win over anybody but Vitali IMO proves nothing.

Its more a case of he wont, for me simply because he has had one eye on the exit door for years and having just earned that massive payday(he was already set for life before the Klitschko debacle) I cant see him finding the motivation to fight again.

Looks like Haye is going to go after Povetkin for that paper title.
Who you guys think is going to win if they fight?

It is obvious that Haye had no intention of taking on tough heavyweight fights in the build up to taking on Klitschko. Where does he go now? I just don't see him taking on rough fights unless it is for a retirement payday against the brother and then he will be made to look silly again..
