  • Why Do Some Boxers Shave Arm Pits/Remove Hair?

Ive noticed that some boxers shave thier arm pits and some do not, Is there any particular reason why boxers would shave the arm pits or is it purely for aesthetic purposes?

Not only that I believe some remove hair from thier arms and chest and some even go as far to remove thier Eye brows, In these areas I guess its possibly to reduce friction when they are hit by gloves and to reduce cuts?

In the UK boxers with beards are not allowed to compete because of a boxing regulation, It must be removed.

    Anyone know?

hahah funny subject.. well i think it is pretty much aesthetics, cuz if i remember well, Khan didn't used to either earlier in his career. u gotta appeal to ur fans right? women love that these days, looks better on tv, cleaner.

a theory: hair also provides "grip" for punches, where punches can land harder, glancing blows can become serious shots, because of the grip that hair provides. cuts can open faster. but even if so, its a slim advantage. i know John Ruiz always fought with beard later on in his career right, even against David Haye? no biggie.

I didn't know UK boxers couldn't compete without removing their beards first.

I forgot where I heard this but it reminds of some weird stipulation DLH would put in a his contract during negotiations that his opponent couldn't have a beard/goatee of sorts, yet he'd come in the ring with a semi-goatee LOL.

To look sexy for the fans obviously, with millions of ppl watching when you raise your arm in victory you don't want to look like a caveman.

Funny that I was actually thinking the same thing.

But I think it comes down to the fact hair is basically to insulate us, so I can only assume they shave body hair to keep themselves cooler.

They shave thier arm pits because it looks much better without hair. I have never heard of any boxer to remove thier eye brows. If you mean "pluck" eyebrow....then yeah some do it but not because they are boxers. They simply think it makes them better looking.
