  • [PLEASE HELP] IE browser shuts down to desktop at random

Is anybody using IE8 getting there browser shutdown to desktop with some crapware trying to install bogus anivirus on your machine? i have good software and win 7 with eset nod32 security suite, and am pretyy savy about security seetings.

When i had the release candidate of win 7 build 7100, i never had any problems at all, nothing was getting through IE, even with lower security setting that i had to raise now. It only happens on this site.

I use inprivate browsing ONLY, with smartscreen enabled, most pop-ups blocked, cookies disabled 'cept for session cookies. and i had to raise my security settings to med-hi even for regular sites. I still pick up more stuff from other sites, so i know MS weakened IE a bit with the final release.

When i was testing the release candidate of win 7 build 7100, it was great, i never picked up hardly anything from anywhere, and not 1 crash, ever. I think MS weakened IE8 somehow, maybe cuz of the EU debacle. I reported that i had this happen about 4 times in 2 days, and only at this site. Never, ever at any other site.

I use disc cleanup, ccleaner, and delete all forms or traces of browsing history when I'm done in IE. I run malawarebytes, and have eset-nod32 security suite and run scans a lot. Evrthing always comes up clean, and like i said, it only happens on this site. I was just wondering if anybody else is having the same problem, but just not reporting it. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this.

Your input is greatly appreciated. I love this site and want to be able to use it with less threats, but i don't know where they're coming from. I'm trying to trap it. Please don't suggest using a different browser, I've been through that a few times.
Even one of the admins says he uses IE and isn't experienceing what i am.

I just don't get it. BPP posted something...dunno if it was this issue in particualr, but he did acknowledge it. And it has improved. But those were mostly redirects. Not browser shutdowns with malware instilling itself. you have to close it out before it finshes.

Tried firefox twice. it blocks too much stuff, some plug ins aren't compatible, i hear it get bloated, and i just don't like it. I paid 15,000 points to custumise my username and in ff it looks like plain text. If I'm missing that, what else am i missing? I'd rather invest in some good security software than to miss out on a lot of java related content. But thanks much for your input.

I don't get lock ups. It just immediatly shuts down to desktop and tried to install ****.

I should mention i'm using win 7 pro, 64 bit.

I use avg.. If you already have major spyware/virus problems, I dont think AVG completely gets rid of those. Have you downloaded AVG and tried to clean up everything?

Yeah, I posted about this earlier on - Alpha Antivirus or some bollocks isn't it? It's happened to me twice in the last two days and only ever on this site. It's pretty annoying but I know very little about computer security so can't really suggest how to stop it.

It's a right sneaky little bastard trying to trick people into installing it. Very nearly fell for it when it made it look like my laptop was being massively attacked in front of my eyes!

No...malwarebytes is about the best malware program out there, and it always comes up clean. Eset has put a lot of work into an already great program, and it also comes up clean. In win 7...windows defender has an option to scan everything so carefully it takes hours, and i don't even have any game installed yet. just some bare essential i need. I will try avg and see what happens. I gotta turn off eset to run avg. Thanks for the advice.

See Sammy? I'm not the only one...and I'm sure more will post. It's definatly something on this site that's doing it. It was something called cyber security, but now they changed the name...forgot what it is i had to close it out as fast as i could.
