As I mentioned in another thread. I've been watching Cotto's fights against Mosley, Judah, Margarita's and Clottey's.
The punch that has been most effective against Cotto is the uppercut, Judah nearly kd'd his @ss in the early rounds. Margarita's uppercuts was what busted up and ended Cotto's night.
Mosley has a terrific straight right, he landed them against Cotto and Cotto defends 'em well.
Cotto keeps a high guard and does a good job of keeping his chin down, so if and when a straight punch comes in, it's landing on his forehead.
I also noticed that Cotto doesn't look at the face of his opponent, he focuses on the hips(a good idea for predicting which side the punch is coming from). That's how those uppercuts are getting through.
The thing with Roach though, is he doesn't believe on loading up on the uppercuts, because when you missed with an uppercut it's the easiest to counter.
I agree with Roach, but I think he should have PAC really work on looking for the openings for an uppercut as much as possible and following it up with either a hook or a straight punch for when Cotto's face gets lifted up from the uppercut
