Like a good soldier, Richard Schaefer knows how to follow orders.
That’s nice to know but it also proves that the inmates are indeed running the asylum at Golden Boy Promotions.
Now the Golden Boy CEO has revealed to the LA Times and reliable scribe Lancealot Pugmire that Sugar Shane Mosley, who only wears VP stripes at GBP and would seem to be outranked by Richie Rich, has “ordered” him to immediately cease and desist from all negotiations and attempts to make a fight between Mosley and Manny Pacquiao.
OK, I am going immediately stop dating Salma Hayek also.
That makes just as much sense. I’ve never been within eyeshot of the Mexican actress and there were no negotiations or talks ever held as to Pacman-Sugarman.
Next thing you know, GBP VP Bernard Hopkins will order RR to wash his Bentley or something.
According to Puggy’s report, Schaefer was told by Mosley to target Andre Berto, Joshua Clottey, Kermit Cintron and Punisher Paul Williams.
Do any of the first three names really stimulate you, fight fan? Are any of the three PPV prime time players?
The correct answer is no, no and no. It’s negative in triplicate.
Mosley was chasing Pacman like a dog chasing its tail even after Bob Arum gave the official kibosh on all speculation. Arum’s nice way of saying thanks but please take a hike was saying that SSM is “in on the deck circle” for Megamanny.
Mosley might as well bury himself in the bullpen because he will never, it says here, be approved as a Pacquiao opponent due to many good reasons including size, skill and the fact that he is also no PPV revenue magnet.
I mean you don't have to have the crystal ball of the awesome Madam Auring to prophesize that.
Williams’ name, though, is intriguing and I will return to Tall Paul in a moment.
But what is as glaring as a newly shined bald man’s pate is the name that Herr Schaefer, no dumbkopf he, failed to mention.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the name that is, as they say on legal documents, intentionally omitted.

The same Mayweather who branded Mosley as a mere “sparring partner.”
If Mosley had any intent or interest in Mayweather, why wouldn’t Bucksup Richard then take the politically correct stance and list “the winner of the Sept. 19 Marquez-Mayweather bout.”
It couldn’t hurt a stagnant promotion which is plainly what Juan Ma-PBF continues to be, could it?
I know Schaefer is Swiss, not Austrian, but this is a girly man play. He had a chance “to pump it up” like
Hans and Franz and he blew it.
Surprising, since as I mentioned, Schaefer is no dumbbell who drops the barbell so to speak.
So there you have it. Somewhat conclusive proof then that the fairly desperate Mosley is not keen on matching his skills with Mayweather.
Is that Shane’s call or is it a strategic decision made by Boss Oscar and his Bad Lieutenant Schaefer?
I suppose it is significant that it finally got through Mosley’s thick skull (better to withstand punches) that he will always be a spectator and never a foe of Pacman’s.
Berto is a top level fight but nothing sensational. He can’t fire up the PPV market unless he does more than he has to date.
Clottey comes off a game losing effort t to Packy’s next foe, Miguel Cotto. So who is going to finance that to Mosley’s fiscal liking?
Fighting Cintron? Why, because he beat Alfredo Angulo? What added credibility would that give the almost 38 year old Mosley.
I realize the pugilistic pond is not overstocked but any decent angler can find bigger fish to fry.
Perhaps the other three got mentioned only to drop Tall Paul’s asking price.
Few want to fight Mosley and no one calls out Williams so maybe they’re people who need people.
In the background, Herr Schaefer is doing his best Streisand impression.
