For the second time in Paul Williams career the bandwagon is full of new fans. But how long are we going to hype The Punisher??? IMO, he is the most difficult boxer to fight with from welter to middle weights without a doubt.
Long ago I posted on how he will do against other fighters. After he beated Margarito, I thought that no one could beat PW, not even PBF, Mosley, Cotto, Cintron, Forrest, Santos, Angulo, Kirkland, Sergio Martinez, Pavlik, Sturm, and Abraham. Eighter opponents would be too short, or too slow, or lack boxing skills to overcome PW attributes. Then the Quintana fight came along and shock the boxing world by delivering 12 perfect rounds to outbox and defeat Paul Williams. It was the first time that I was glad while loosing bet money.
Now it is a matter of time before another boxer demonstrates that Paul Williams is not unbeatable. At WELTER WEIGHT, I believe PBF could be that fighter, but then again, recent history shows us he will take on smaller, slower or older opponents ONLY. (Gatti, Baldo, ODLH, Hatton) So PBF is out of the picture. Can Cotto be the one to weaken PW with body shots??? That tall skinny body sure can be broken down the stretch with devastating left hooks to his body. Tough call.
I don't see anyone on 154lbs having a chance agaisnt The Punisher, maybe Sergio Martinez, as he moves horizontaly very well, uses well the space in the ring, his speed is decent and he showed to have a good chin when he fought Kermit Cintron. But I would not put money on Sergio. At Middle Weight, I only see Pavlik having a chance due to his past experience, and power. Great boxers could not beat Jermaine Taylor, and Pavlik did it twice... can't forget that fact. Sturm, and Abraham can't handle The Punisher, period.
So once again, Paul Williams is the most avoided fighter in Boxing Today. But who you got able to beat him and why??? If Quintana did it, why can't another boxer do the same. I appreciate Paul Williams and love to watch his fights, but I keep my feet on the ground, HE AIN'T SUPERMAN, and if he was, there is always KRYPTONITE!!!
