    Countdown to Pacquiao-Mayweather

Narrated by Josh Charles- voice of Pacquiao/Marquez 2 Countdown and Cotto/Margarito countdown

    *Dramatic music plays*

Narrator: December 6th, 2008- in what was the biggest fight since De la Hoya-Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao took on Oscar de la Hoya in what was deemed to be a mismatch by many boxing fans and critics.

*Footage of De la Hoya/Pacquiao facing off in the center for ring instructions*

Narrator: Like all anticipated fights, there was a sense of grand tension in the air, and when the bell rung, a pro-Pacquiao crowd turned out to cheer on their Filipino icon.

Lampley commentating: “The bell sounds and round number one is under way…”

Narrator: To many critics’ surprise, Pacquiao came out hurting Oscar de la Hoya, as early as the first round…

Kellerman interviewed: “It was unbelievable, I honestly could not believe what I was seeing…”

Narrator: As the fight progressed, it was evident who would win the fight…

*Clip of Oscar trying to fight back but Pacquiao overwhelming him with body shots*

Narrator: In the end, Manny Pacquiao had the biggest win in his career, against all odds…

*Show photos of Pacquiao with his hand raised, one with Roach trying to raise him up, and one with Pacquiao crying with his mouth wide open*

Lampley interviewed: “I think that with that win in dominating fashion…someone had their ego slightly bruised, and it wasn’t Oscar.”

Narrator: Having gone through a long streak of wins against top fighters, Manny Pacquiao sits on top of the pound-for-pound list convincingly, and with the exposure he’s acquired, it has lured an undefeated fighter out of retirement…

Mayweather interviewed: “People talkin’ dis an’ dat, ‘Oh, he’s a coward.’, ‘Oh, he’s runnin’!’…I’ll show you why I retired, because no one’s in my league, and I’m gonna’ justify it! I’MA ICE THAT MUTHA****A!”

*Clip of Mayweather outclassing Corrales, Corley and Gatti*

Mayweather: “They can talk all the **** they want, but they don’t know anything. I can’t wait to see the look on all their faces and tell them, ‘I told you so…I told you so’!”

Narrator: A fight of this magnitude has been long anticipated by boxing fans…as the man that was the successor of Mayweather’s position for best fighter in the world takes it, and lures the once dominant Mayweather out of retirement for a super-fight showdown that is expected to be an action-packed fight. This is the story of two fighters with contrasting personalities…

*Clip of Pacquiao around Roach and friends*

*Random clip of Mayweather when he made fun of Oscar de la Hoya at a press conference*

Narrator: …Two fighters from opposite ends of the world, who have only one thing in common: to be the best there is. This is the countdown…to Pacquiao-Mayweather.

*Clip of Pacquiao hitting the target mitts and Mayweather jump roping*

    ~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

Narrator: The Philippines. Manny Pacquiao is at home around family members and friends as he takes time to perform one of his favorite hobbies…singing and playing the guitar.

*Pacquiao playing the guitar around friends and trainer*

Pacquiao: “Para Sa 'Yo Ang Laban Na 'To…”

    *Everyone applauds*

Some random Filipino: “Manny Pacquiao always gathers around here to play for us. He’s very special to all Filipinos and we are proud to be close to him.”

Pacquiao: “Para Sa ‘Yo Ang Laban Na ‘To…”

Narrator: Manny Pacquiao has been working his way up the pound-for-pound rankings for several years. Over the course of his last several fights, he has proved time and time again that he will be a force to be reckoned with as long as he continues to fight. In the last six years, he has won 9 of his last 10 fights. His only defeat in the last six years came against Erik Morales by unanimous decision, but would later be avenged in a stunning 10th round tko victory, and then follow that victory up with another 3rd knockout against Erik Morales yet again.

Doug Fischer interviewed: “When he knocked out Erik Morales, not only did he avenge his loss, but he did something that hadn’t been done before, which was knock down Morales and then beat him by knockout. Everyone stood up and took notice.”

Pacquiao interviewed: “Aye do everyting for mye khontry…every time I fight, I tink about them and it geeves me strength.”

Narrator: Ever since, Pacquiao has continued to demolish all the fighters in his division, and even had close decisions against the formidable Juan Manuel Marquez, but through it all he came out victorious.

*Show photos of Pacquiao knocking out fighters and dominating them*

Narrator: 2008 was Pacquiao’s biggest year yet, when he moved up to lightweight and defeated David Diaz by technical knockout in the 9th round.

*Show clip of Pacquiao knocking Diaz out*

Lampley interviewed: “People thought that…well, maybe he’ll lose some of his speed that’s made him so dangerous. Wow, did he impress us when he fought Diaz!”

Narrator: Towards the end of the last year, Pacquiao fought against Oscar de la Hoya. A fight which many deemed a mismatch. But on the day of the weigh-in, De la Hoya failed to make the initial weight attempt, weighing 2 and a quarter pounds over the weight limit.

Roach interviewed: “There was clause in the contract that said we would be…we would be rich mother****ers for every pound Oscar was over 147. It even said so in the contract printed in bold: ‘For every pound over 147, Oscar de la Hoya will make Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao two rich mother****ers’. He made weight eventually, but making weight at the last minute is usually a sign that the fighter will underperform…if there was ever a chance to seize the fight, this was it.”

Narrator: Oscar made weight on his second attempt, regardless. And the two fighters faced off to get ready for their epic battle.

*Photo of Pacquiao and De la Hoya doing the stare-down at the weigh-in*

Lampley interviewed: “Of course we were all excited, it was Manny Pacquiao and Oscar de la Hoya! Despite the fact that many were criticizing the match-up, they tuned in to watch it to see if maybe, just maybe…it would turn out in Pacquiao’s favor.”

*Clip of Filipinos waving their flag in the crowds*

Lampley commentating: “A packed arena full of Pacquiao fans comes out to support him, the atmosphere a pro-Pacquiao crowd…this will undoubtedly be a very electric atmosphere!”

Narrator: When the bell rang, both fighters met at last in the center of the ring. Soon after, the telling sign gave a preview of things to come…

Lampley commentating: “Pacquiao comes out blazing like a firestorm! Oscar is in trouble!”

Merchant interviewed: “For almost every round…Pacquiao came out and dominated Oscar de la Hoya, against all logic. If anyone picked Pacquiao…it was because they were either fanatical…or knew nothing about boxing. Because when you thought about it…even at Oscar’s age……he had a tremendous advantage over Pacquiao in technique, height, weight re-hydration…boy, were we wrong.”

Narrator: In between rounds, Oscar apparently seemed to be fatigued. Against a dynamic fighter like Pacquiao, a small problem such as this could do nothing but worsen his chances, becoming smaller and smaller as the fight progressed…

Lampley interviewed: “Oscar was almost down and out several times during that fight. It wasn’t so much as him being hurt, it was just that he couldn’t even punch effectively. He was pushing his punches for more than half the fight.”

Narrator: In the end, Pacquiao won a unanimous decision, despite being knocked down 4 times.

Kellerman interviewed: “Pacquiao won every single round, except those four rounds where he was knocked down by Oscar’s left hooks. He wasn’t discouraged, they were weak knockdowns, and Oscar knew it…”

Pacquiao interviewed: “Peepool ahsk me eef aye took the fight beecuhz of the money, it isn’t true. Aye took it because…to be the bess. Oscar immediately ahfered me a rematch, but I refuse it, just to show everyone it eesn’t only abow the money.”

Roach interviewed: “Oscar complained when Manny said ‘no’ for a rematch, and I don’t feel ashamed for him. Manny beat him by slim margin, but he beat him nonetheless. I-I…I think that’s all that matters. As far as I’m concerned, Oscar might try to negotiate a rematch at 154 pounds to try and get a bigger advantage, and…umm…he can go **** himself if he wants to, ‘cause there is no way Manny is gonna’ move up another weight class. Tha-Tha-That’s ridiculous…”

*Camera shows Pacquiao’s silhouette sitting and playing the guitar in front of a red/orange sunset*

Roach voiceover: “It was risky fighting at 147, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Oscar came with a big money offer to get Manny to go up to 154…that’s why Manny took this fight instead of the rematch. He’s going back to a more comfortable weight and is facing somebody really worth fighting…”

*Blue Skies, Cars, neon lights and people are shown*

Narrator: Las Vegas, Nevada. Inside one of the nightclubs on The Strip, a unique individual flaunts his mouth…and his money…

*Cut to Mayweather jumping up and down inside a night-club crowded around people with music blaring in the background*

    The roof, the roof

This is what a Pacquiao-Mayweather countdown would be like if it were to happen in 2009...mmm-hmm!

Note: Josh Charles is the best narrator ever in the Countdowns. DWiens might agree with me on this.

BTW, this is satirical work! Don't get all gung-ho on me.

    It will be continued...

Very creative, Pen. I'm getting mental flashes of how this would all play out in a televised HBO broadcast. That little slick remark, “I think that with that win in dominating fashion…someone had their ego slightly bruised, and it wasn’t Oscar.”, sounds like something Jim or Larry would say. Props. Prolly one of the most entertaining posts I've read since I've been here. You nice with the pen, Pen.
