While the talk continues to swirl that Randy Couture could fight Chuck Liddell in June for the UFC Lightweight title, Couture continues to work out with some of the bigger guys of the sport.
Couture has recently spent some more time with Tim Sylvia, the current UFC Heavyweight Champion as he continues to work on his overall game. "These guys are so much more skilled than they used to be" said Couture smiling when he recently talked with MMAWeekly.
"I used to be able to beat them with my speed and endurance, but the guys are just so much better than they used to be in the earlier UFC's."
It looks as if Couture fights at 205 that he won't be able to get the mandatory rematch his old contract stated as a heavyweight. "If the fight against Ricco Rodriguez would have gone to a decision when we fought, Syvlia wouldn't have had a chance to win the championship, because in my contract it stated I would have had an immediate rematch. Since I lost by referee stoppage I would have had to fight someone else before I got the rematch. I was planning on fighting Arlovksi, but since he broke his hand, 205 is now an option."
It's still belived by many that Couture vs Liddell will happen, unless the UFC and Tito Ortiz can cut a deal very soon. On Monday Ortiz said it would take $150,000 to show and $150,000 to win to get him in the ring with Liddell. As of press time there has been no comment from the UFC offices regarding a possible deal.
