  • should i start going to a differnt gym

i think i might need to change to an other boxing gym reasons are as follows
1.we only train twise a week
2.its really hard to get a fight u are lucky to get 4 fights a year no matter how long u have been going
    3.the training sesions never change
4.when u do get a fight its always hassel about dates weight and time right up to the fight.
    5. and finally i dont know weather to see this as a plus or a minus we have to spar every sesion
so what do u guys think should i move on or shut up and stop winein?

I definitely think every single one of those points is a good and valid reason to go someplace else. Especially if you actually have other options.

    1. Twice a week is nowhere near enough. I start people out at 3-4 times per week, and once they decide they want to be serious, it's 6-10 times a week (depending on what level they're at).
    2. This COULD be because they're careful. Hard for anyone who doesn't know the "scene" in the area. It is definitely on the low side.
    3. This tells me the trainers there don't know what they're doing. Too much of the same training, and you'll actually be moving backwards eventually.
    4. Sometimes fights pop up out of the blue, but the fact that your trainer doesn't realize his fighter went 11 (!!) kilo's over weight, makes taking those fights impossible. This also gives me the impression they don't know what they're doing.
    5. This is really a big point. Too much sparring can make you "old" real fast. I've seen fighters who sparred too much, get old at 22-23. Reflexes gone. Slurred speech. Coordination gone.
Sparring should be used for working on specific things. If you don't have something to go in there and work on, there's no reason to go in there. I'm not saying don't spar, but overdoing it is just as bad as not getting enough.

That is certainly not a way that I would run a gym, nor would I tolerate it as a training boxer. Joe Frazier has some guidelines on how to evaluate gyms and trainers in his book Box Like The Pros.

The book should have been called "how to lose your most important fights, and be bitter about it forever."

Yeah, I guess being mean to Frazier just because this guy's an idiot isn't really fair... I'm really getting fed up with potatoes though.

After hearing many people commenting that nate should move gym cos

1.we only train twise a week

I was wondering if that is still considered bad if I'm only a beginner.
