I agree with the above by IrishDiscussion. I'm 49, and will be 50 by the time my amateur Fight Night arrives, and I don't feel that I should hesitate in participating.

Doing things smartly should happen at any age. And that means that I spar and fight an event against an appropriate opponent, whatever that means to you.

Too old at 31? Man, I hope not. I joined a boxing club this week, and I'm 39. I haven't died yet, though I have maybe wished for it during and after core training.

It means, I wish you the best, if your reasons for being in the ring are pure. If that's the case, haters gonna hate, just smile and know they envy that drive.

That statement is incorrect. They now have a class called Masters where guys can fight when they are 60 as long as everything matches up appropriately......Rockin'

Just dont fight someone like Joe Smith Jr. or else you will end up like Hopkins.

No they don't? (Not That I have heard of anyway) it certainly is not recognised by AIBA.

The age limit for competition is 39, which has just recently been changed to 40 for boxers who look to compete at a high level such as Olympics.

Once you are over the age of 39 AIBA will not recognise you for competition (fact).

The only way you can box after 39,is in white collar type fights, which AIBA won't recognize anyway.

Out of interest from your post I did do a quick google just to make sure, and their is nothing on it. Their is a training program called boxing masterclass alright, but that's about it.

                    Sorry rockin,
After further research (cause I was interested in your comment) you are correct IN A WAY.

I found this "master class" that you speak of on USA boxing, and england also carry it.

Their is a certain rules to it though.

They won't be recognised in an AIBA official tournament if they are over 40, but they do (recently) have their own "class".

Rules state, if they are 40 or under they may compete as an elite senior,(which is a small bit mad really).
Anyone over 40,who wishes to compete (but not at let's say European, America's,world or Olympic level) will be issued a new book, a " yellow book" to compete.

They must have more regular medical checks, and can cannot fight anyone over or under 10years their age.
Also I do not think (but am not 100%) they can compete for a national title,as the class is not widely recognised.

This is new to me so thank you for sharing this, and any more info you have about this new "class" would be helpful?

Masters has been around forever. No reason for anyone to not box. Go for it.
