  • What give us the Punching Power?

Hey there, I'll keep this short.

I've been boxing for a while now and I'm also a competitive powerlifter (BW 170 lbs). I wanna know what's the science behind why I hit harder than many heavier people than me?

I deadlift 560 lbs atm and squat 430 lbs. What is giving me that punching power on the mits/pads/sparring comapred to people that has been training even years more than me? I know people out there hit way harder, I just wonder my case in particular. People around tell me I hit like a rock (people heavier and that have been boxing even more time).

    Thanks,
    cheers!

Power comes from you lower body, hips, legs, etc

Your Trunk, thick strong abdomens, hips, legs and good rotation. Add in tension of muscles at the exact point of the snap of the punch and it's like being hit by a freight train

IDK man tbh. There are a lot of varying opinions when it come to this topic. Some will say your base (legs), some will say your core (midsection), some will say technique & others will say some people are just heavy handed.

Personally, I think its a mix of the 4. But being heavy handed is genetic so either you have it or you dont.

Hard to say without seeing your technique. To generate power you have to be explosive and doing lifts explosively can help with that.

There's a combination of things. It starts at the feet, through the thrust of the legs, turning of the hips and shoulders and, funny enough, the arms are the least important factor in physical power. They are like a dart. It's their job to hit the target, but the hand (legs, hips, shoulders) is where the thrust comes from.

Raw strength is only one component. Timing is another. Timing involves speed, technique, setting up the combo, playing off the opponent's weakness, etc. You can have all the power in the world and it will be useless if you can't get it on the target, at the right time.

Power comes from your cok, the smaller the cok the harder you punch its a known fact, small people train harder have more motivation thats why they become so great
