  • You know that feeling...

...when you've done pads for someone bigger than you and then you get home from the gym and you can't move one of your arms?

Please give tips on how to hold pads for the 'big right'? It's my right arm that's sore, the left is absolutely fine. It was the right cross what's done it, I'm mean I'm pretty **** doing the pads anyway but I've obviously done something wrong there

i dunno..... never felt that.. and i walk around 126lbs lol
i like to hold the pads very close to my body/face, basically like gloves? and just kinda meet the punch with my whole body weight behind it.

dont wear the pads like theyre just something u wave around with ur arms.

No I don't know that feeling either, I mean some of our coaches that do pads for hours with heavy hitters get sore hands/shoulders sometimes but nothing too bad. The only trouble I've had is if I hold pads before getting properly warmed up, easy to hurt your shoulder catching a hook that way.

Are you guys assistant trainers? If you're fighters then why in the world would you be holding pads?

every gym i've been to (5 different ones) has involved pairing-up and some sort of pad-style training. that's here in the northwest UK, is it different where you are?

Here, the trainer does pad work for those who need it. I go to a relatively small gym which has two trainers. They only train amateurs and don't have a lot of mitts.

What you do sounds good as long as the guy holding the mitts has a good flow when telling the boxer combinations.

Provided you are doing it right and having issues, put your left hand behind the right hand as support. You really shouldn't have to but if the guy is that big of a puncher I'd say it's your only choice other than having someone else catch for him.

Thanks for the replies, trainer advised putting more body behind it which has helped. I also checked out a few videos on youtube, this one was especially helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhs_FrIbSPI
