how to throw the 1-2 and keep my hands up.

sadly thats the only thing my head trainer taught me in the 4 years i was there, we had other trainers who did know what they were doing obviously or i wouldnt have been there so for long. but the main coach, single least intelligent and most incompetent human being i ever came across in my life. all he did was tell you what you couldnt do, which was everything other than walk straight in and throw the 1-2.

Glad I wasn't the only one with this experience. Although you at least had some other guys to teach you. Despite being tall for my weight class I've never sparred someone my own weight and just got peppered with 1-2s. I learned pretty much through sparring but he only ever taught me to keep a high guard and throw 1-2s. But given how high he wanted us to keep our hands up it was impossible to throw punches properly.

Boxing is all about angles, balance, distance and timing....but with out a proper stance and balance you can not accomplish anything

Stance, jab is very important because it sets up all your other punches behind it and to always keep your hands up!

Sounds like we had the same trainer, I was taught to hold my hands high then thrown into sparring where I learned the how to survive through trial and error. I didn't learn the proper fundamentals unitl I moved to a different area and picked up a new coach..........
