most fighters however do it for mental reasons, by working out when their opponent is asleep they feel as if they get ahead and it gives them a mental edge.
its often a matter of habit too. at some point all fighters have to balance boxing with either work or school. you generally work/study during the day, box at night and hence you have to run in the morning before work/school to allow your body to rest between workouts. after years this becomes a habit that they stick by even after they are full time fighters.

Ideally you run early, eat at 10am then workout at 12 noon till 2pm. Rest!
Spar at 7pm and whatever you need to do after sparring. This is for a pro.
An amateur has it much more difficult because of schooling and jobs.
You train when you can fit everything around it. Tuff being a amateur boxer.
Ray.

It really doesn't matter what time you work out as long as you've eaten well before you workout. For cardio it doesn't matter as much but for weight lifting I've found I'm much weaker early in the morning even after breakfast and so was my workout partner.
Also it doesn't matter that your testosterone is higher in the morning, it only effects protein synthesis and other things that are irrelevant and won't make your workouts better.
