  • why weight drain?

    k i know the "advantages" of weight draining,
    but whats the point when EVERYONE does it. then u "lose the advantage"
    so why don't they just disallow weight draining and everyone fights healthy ?

      Because boxers who are matched have to weigh within the same weight category as their opponents.

      If fighters were matched by their walking around weights they would still have to weigh in to match opponent's weight.

      Obviously you state that you know the advantages of weight draining. but if it were you on the scales at your natural weight knowing you were going to face someone over a stone heavier the next day despite them making same weight as you the day before......you might think differently.

        first of all everyone doesnt even sweat down let alone drain themselves. i think you are confusing simply cutting weight to draining yourself doing so. draining yourself is when you sweat down too much to the point when whatever size advantage you might have had turns into a disadvantage due to the struggles to make weight. naturally this doesnt happen to everyone.

        you could have in ring weigh ins like they used to, but look at the spectacle weigh ins have become in recent years. its one of the keys to promoting major fights now. ppl should be allowed to cut if they want to, like i sad lots of ppl choose not to and have done well for themselves. there are advantages and disadvantages to cutting weight so to each his own.

          the friday weigh in is designed in part to make going to a big time fight a two day event. more hotel rooms being sold, more casinos taking people's money.

            so basically
            some ppl dehydrate the crap outa themselves to gain a weight advantage by sacrificing health
            vs ppl who choose to fight at natural hydrated weight?

            sounds lame :/

              You could end up like Dorin with a Gatti who outweighs you by almost 20lbs and can punch that is why.

              May have been Gamache not sure I know it was someone he blasted out in 2.

                It does sound lame, but it is very much an exact science involving nutritionists, perfect timing and correct refuelling post weigh in.

                A size and weight advantage on fight night really can be of benefit more times than not......

                    I weight drain in a 24-30 hour period. A lot of guys will starve just to make weight and end up going into the fight weak because the whole training camp/training week they starved. Not me I eat healthy and I try to drop the last 10-14 LBS in the 24-30 hour period which normally its just water weight.

                    I rather suffer 1 day then to be weak all through out training camp.
