Honestly, I don't think you need to go full power when shadow boxing. It's mostly to work on technique. Yah you also work hand speed, power, foot work, stance, visualization etc.. Works great for cardio.. and also to warm you up before your training.

Plus, if you work full speed+power when shadow boxing you can damage your joints if you over extend. Go all out on the bag or sparring IMO.

ALSO, going 100% when shadowboxing can cause you to develop bad habits..and overall sloppiness.

shadowboxing at full trottle helps greatly with balance, you can condition yourself to throw full bodied punches and still being able to catch yourself quickly if you miss, where as on the heavybag you have the bag to keep you up

and i have never heard of hyperextension while shadowboxing, atleast not without weights, and if anything it should help you to know the limit of your elbow joint before you do some damage to yourself

and where did you get the idea that shadowboxing 100% can develop bad habits? shadowboxing is all about focus, picture an opponent, and avoid punches, land punches, i'll tell you now that it develops alot less bad habits than the heavybag which can be hard to stay disciplined when all you really wanna do dig into it with monster shots

Do you plan on fighting without blocking punches, slipping, using head movement, stepping back on angles to get out of range, etc?

You're just throwing punches. That's not shadow boxing, you need to imagine there's a guy throwing back at you. That means

                1. Move more as you would in a fight. You're probably not gonna stand in one place throwing a 12 punch combination while the opponent just lets you hit him in the same exact place...use footwork, circle, go forward, back, use lateral (side to side) movement
                2. Keep your hands up and practice blocking/parrying incoming punches and then countering back really fast.
                3. Moving your upper body...slipping/ducking/changing the level your upper body is at while practicing head movement too.

                In other words...FIGHT.

Right on the mark Kid Achilles, where have you been?

I'm still looking for an opponent for this guy for this summer. You can tell a hell of alot about a guy from his shadowboxing. If you look at his still shots you will notice limp wrists, I know, seems like nothing.

I'm going to find this kid a Detroit Dawg to throw with in a sanctioned bout this summer, show him what it's like to be in a real fight.

Those boys up north just don't fight like we do in Detroit.............. Rockin'

people dont give a **** about the jab these days. it's like your just moving it to make your other combos look better. Stop dropping it and throw it with some authority, straight and turn it over. don't telegraph it.
