When you're in there, everything goes faster and slower at the same time. You're reacting faster and you're moving faster. Your heart beats ten times faster. The adrenaline really kicks in, while you're trying to go at it with the other fighter. It's nothing like sparring and you can't go at any pace. If you get hit, expect for the guy to try to finish you off.
At the same time, everything's going by so much slower. The round feels like an eternity and every second feels like a minute. The more tired you get, the slower time seems to pass by. At some point, your reflexes slow and your body starts bogging you down. You'll be cussing at yourself in your head, because simple things like keeping your hands up are forgotten due to how tired you are.
By the end of it all you should be exhausted, tired, and drained. There is no easy winning or dominating most of the time. If you're behind on the cards, you know you better be putting every last ounce in those last rounds. If you're ahead on the cards, you know the other guy is going to do the same thing. There is no easy way out when both fighters are there to win.
At the end of the day, despite your body screaming at you, there's no way out. You're in there for 2/3 minutes. You have to be confident that everything you did outside of the ring will be there to carry you inside of it, because that's all you're going to be bringing with you.
