  • I think it's time to hang up the gloves =(

Amateur boxer here with 3 wins, 6 losses. I just can't handle being a short fighter anymore especially with the crappy amateur scoring. I'm 5'7" and fight in the 165 lb weight class.

Except for 2 of my opponents (who I beat), everyone I fought was always much taller. Half-foot taller and such. When trying to get inside, I slip some but also take some. I then land my own to the body and to the head but they're rarely counted so it's closer and not every judge can see (also body shots don't count).

Discuss. Cause I think it's time to just move on tbh. Maybe I could improve enough to do decently against taller people but at the elite levels (which I aspire to reach) I think I'm screwed.

In my honest opinion if that is how you feel then you probably should pack it in. Have you thought about dropping weight? I am sure at 5'7'' & 165 you can drop down unless you have a rather big frame.

You're 5 7 and weigh 165? I dont know what your build is but it sounds like you have excessive weight that is putting you in an unnatural weight class. Your best bet is to cut weight till you're in a weight class with people who would naturally be closer to your size. It should be easier after that

Like the others said, 5''7 and 165 is pretty stocky...sure you couldnt get down to 152?

I don't think I can cut down to 152 lbs without being damn weak. I'm tiny enough at 5'7" where some people much taller than me are still bigger/buffer. Here's me right now at 167 lbs.

Bro, you honestly don't look fat at all. Actually, you're in great shape! You'll just have to change up your approach to taller opponents. You can learn about good head movement and inside fighting skills from watching prime Tyson footage. You really need to bob and weave, so practice ducking. Fast squats will help you. You can use the leverage to counter using angles from under your opponent. Don't quit man, keep trying to be as good as you can be

Yeah, Ive seen a few of the shorter stocky fighters go to mma because their body shape is probably more suited to it, but short aggressive guys can still be effective in boxing, its probably just a little harder to have success that way because you need a really good chin and conditioning. Bit easier to just be 6''1 and keep the fight at the end of your jab lol.

Also don't forget that the pros is more suited to that kind of style than the amateurs is, but with 9 fights you would def need heaps more experience to go pro and have some success.

Ok so youre no good at tag, how about you turn pro?

Sounds like BS rules that favour weak tall guys.
