  • Ring Generalship/Staying Calm

Hey guys and gals, Long time - no post.

As you may or may not recall, I've been training for almost 5months now. So I am somewhat conditioned to the workouts we do in the gym.Training was intense today.Today I had to grab the puke bucket.

Anyways, I had to sit out of sparring because my body was exhausted. They say that there are people who have to use the puke bucket every once in a while and it's nothing to be ashamed of, but my concern is when I get back in the ring.Which brings me to this point:

How do you guys conserve your energy in the ring? In training?

I'll be interested in your responses. Keep up good work guys.

Form over function. This is something you have to teach your at all times and something you have to mentally enforce most of the time besides when you're sparring and hitting the bag.

Once you learn how to relax your body you can conserve massive amounts of energy, youll be able to punch harder and faster too. Make sure you practice technique more than going crazy on the bags or rings or w/e. Think form over function, that way you get what I described in the first bit where you know the moves so well the only thing in your body that moves are the muscles needed for the movement while everything else is relaxed, thus conserving your energy. Plus that way itll be second nature to you so that you dont have to put any effort into it, thus meaning your mind will be relaxed, and if your mind is relaxed so will be your body (most important thing) which also allows you to strategist better.

Same with strategy, have them planned out before you go in there and memorized, that way when youre in there youll know exactly how hes going to behave and control his movements, because again, a clear mind = a relaxed body. They also become INFURIATED when your moves are so automatic and cant hit you and realize theirs nothing they can do to you so theyll try harder, and once they start exerting themselves so hard you can pick them apart so easily. So its always form and finesse you need before thinking of doing damage. Lots of people when they train are just thinking about being tuff and fighting rather than technique pound away with no finesse.

Once you have those things down its really easy to go the distance without getting tired. And youll be more aware of your body and youll be able to squeeze out even past your usual limit.

Always, always make sure to exhale during your punch. Lots of beginners or casuals are embarrassed by it or think its ****** so they don't like to do it. Exhaling conserves tons of energy.

As for an exercise one thing you can do is try running faster than you usually do and making sure you absolutely dont stop, that way you you get used to being in the mind frame of your body going past its limit and you can recognize it better and have more control over it. Plus on top of that if you find yourself in that point where youre doing hard fighting, from running the track, youll be familiar with it and know how long you can stay in it (thus clearing up your mind better and allowing you to have a clear head allowing less strain).
