Im a freshman my coach says Im going to have the size and speed to play in college and go D1.

But when I turn 18 I want to not go to college and turn pro.

My mom says Education should be Number 1#

and i will need school later in life .

    I feel like screw that
If you're 18 do what you want for a couple of years. If you are truly training seriously to be a boxer that'll keep you out of trouble and if you turn out to be bigtime you can buy urself a pile of rental properties and be set.

In 2 years if it's not panning out you'll be that much more aware of the importance of getting some kind of paper that helps you get a decent job.

My $.02 for what it's worth. Good luck in any case.

My view of it, is that if you have options, don't go into pro boxing.

Boxing should really be left to those who have NO CHOICE but to fight, or to those of exceptional skill recognized early (usually sons of pro fighters, or amateur standouts).

Well, this isn't true either. A college degree guarantees you nothing in today's job market.

Follow your dreams and your passion, don't take no for an answer. If you don't want to go to school don't go. Education doesn't guarantee you success either, most often it leaves you in a mountain of debt and unemployed. I know people that went to law school that are working the same job as some one right out of high school.

If education is an option for someone I will always advice them to go with that no matter how talented I think they are.

            Boxing is a risky business.

I'm not going to say don't go to school... but don't do it if you feel like you're forcing yourself to. I'm doing that right now and it sucks.
School does present you with other options though down the line depending what you do. Just keep it in your back pocket if you decide to go pro... like someone said before, baby bull went back to school after boxing

If you are offered a opportunity to go to school for free and play football that's a great opportunity. They take care of you at the D1 level. Doesn't mean you cant box afterward two and you can have something to fall back on. But you got time to figure it out.

Id personally go with school; I once thought I wanna be the best professional fighter I can be but im not that good at sports, and thus im the only one doing boxing in my family so boxing really is not the "destined thing I am supposed to do". i do love this sport but i know that its one of the most brutal sports there is and if i fail at it then i wouldn't have anything to fall back on. im going through hs right now and like the others say, it does suck. but im really thinking of going to college.
