  • Should I Fight?

Basicly I have a fight on feb. 19th (8 days) and im not sure if i should go through with it or not. I had this cold for months that just wont go away and bcuz of it i havent been able to train as much as i wanted, i only been to the gym once this week. Im not in the shape i would have wanted and i reckon i will still be somewhat under the weather on the day of the fight.

on top of that i hurt my right hand in sparring a week ago, its the joint of the thumb thats hurt and i still cant make a tight fist. anytime i thrown a right hand in sparring since its hurt like hell. on top of that i got a slight injury in the back/neck area, which is all but gone but im a bit worried it might get re-injured if i take a clean shot to the head.

    should i fight?

i want to fight bad, i havent fought since dec. 17th and i lost that night to a guy i shouldve beaten easily. my trainer has given me lots of attention in the gym compared to the other fighters and really invested in me, and i gotta admit it hasnt payed of as much as it shouldve in the ring. the last thing i want is to seem unwilling to fight. i have fought with a bad right hand, a cold, under prepared etc before but just one issue at a time. i never fought with this much stuff going on all at once.

should i fight and just be happy to get the experience, or should i sit it out and wait til im better prepared? i especially want the opinions of ppl who competed themselfs or trained fighters to compete but i will be happy with anyones response.

    thanks

you know your body and you know your abilities. I've fought plenty of times with colds, flus, hurt this or injured that. It's entirely up to you. Funny thing is that the fight will take away the cold, it will be gone the next day.

Do what you've got to do. In my mind either you are a drama queen or setting up for an excuse if you should lose.............Rockin'

Be upfront with your trainer. You guys ought to be a team - and you should be able to trust his opinion.

Off hand - start training, get your head in the game and convince yourself that cold or no cold; in as good shape or not you're going to fight and you're going to win.

Regarding your hand -- that's something your trainer should have been aware of. Hands are fragile things -- it can take 6 more weeks before your hand is ready for training, let alone fighting.
