  • Whats your favorite punch?

Recently I learned how to throw hooks, mainly body hooks. When I was jabbing only, I loved throwing a right straight (hence the name) and it always looked beautiful when it landed perfect. Though, since I learned and got my hook down I love throwing them...all the time. Even if they're physically demanding, there feels like theres so much damage if one lands cleanly! Even though I havent discovered my sunday punch yet, hooks feel amazing to throw correctly.

I was wondering if anyone else might of had a certain punch they enjoy throwing or seeing. So I ask...

What is generally your favorite punch to throw, see land and whats your sunday punch? Any reason why?

    Favorite punch to
Throw: Right hook to the body
    See land: Right straight
    Sunday Punch: Unknown

I like the jab. It's the punch that MAKES boxing.

I'm a southpaw. I like to get in close, circle right (away from their straight) and throw a heavy left hook or maybe a shovelhook -- the six punch for a lefty -- to the body. Some gyms don't even teach the six, so some guys have never seen it, much less seen it from a southpaw. It's an unconventional punch that slows them down for awhile, especially to the liver. I have dropped opponents with a liver shot this way.

Against a turtled-up opponent I like to throw the Dempsey Jolt (falling-step jab) early on, right into his gloves. If he doesn't see the falling step -- which if he's really turtled up, he won't -- it gives him the impression that I'm going to spend the next six minutes blasting him around the ring.

I also like the vertical jab if the guy's carrying a high guard, because it will slip through the first couple of times and sting him. He'll think that he's not tight enough; he might try to shift into a position that he's not comfortable in. If I use it sparingly, he may not realize I'm turning my glove sideways; he may only realize that something in his defense isn't working, and he'll move out of his comfort zone. If I'm lucky, he'll get flustered and f*** up. Like the Jolt, it's a psyche-out. Instilling a little bit of doubt in your opponent's mind gives you a huge psychological edge.

        Throw > Straight Right
        Land > Left Hook
        Sunday Punch > Right Uppercut

My favourite combo is > Double Jab(one body), Straight Right, Left Hook(possibly to body, not performed that much though in this combo), Right Uppercut.

              Throw > Left Hook (head)
              Land > Wild Right (vertical)
Sunday Punch > Left Hook (head)

I like the hook because I can feel it....and when I feel the shot it's strong.

btw why is it called Sunday punch?

It comes from the expression wearing your sunday clothes. People would go to church on sundays and wear their nicest looking clothes.

So, sunday clothes = Best clothes.

                Sunday punch = Best punch.
