But to more specifically answer your question there wouldnt be any real way to know aside from visiting a gym and sitting in or participating in one of their team workouts... Thats assuming they do have a boxing team where ever you intend on training at. A lot of it is word of mouth, see what people are saying, nowadays everyone is some sort of fighter they ll tell you what gyms and what trainers are good bad and the ugly.
Hmm.. thank you. I just don't want to be conned or ripped off by some gym with bad trainers. I called this one boxing gym, and the person who answered recommended me to some gym to some MMA gym, that trains boxing. Website is very flashy too, doesn't seem very professional.

That is typical for where I am. My gym is actually geared toward MMA, the funny thing is the boxing team/class pulls in more attention and is the bigger money maker. Who knew right? I definitely think your best bet is to head down to a gym and check out a training session. They should offer a free pass to train in a class environment or one on one with a trainer there that would be the best way to feel things out and see if it is a comfortable fit for you.

Thanks. They do offer a free first class and is only $35/month. I will check it out for sure! I'm from the Fort Wayne area as well.

plus you could just use the cheap sparring gloves on the bag..oh you also need a gum shield ,the gym will probably provide crappy sweaty headguards....
He's right in that case just pick up the kofightgear sparring gloves, only $38 and free shipping. You can use them to spar and a little bit on the bag. My gym is an mma gym and my trainer has many awards pertaining to mma. But I do muay thai there, wish I could purely just learn boxing but its a good place.

They dont ensure but they are a preventative measure taken to protect your hands. Without them you are more likely to seriously injure your hands. I am 5'9'' and I started boxing at your exact weight I ended up dropping down to 152 to compete. I know walk around at 152 to 155 and fight at 141. The rule of thumb you may want to adhere to is fight at least ten pounds under the weight you walk around at. I dont lift weights any more, not since i picked up boxing. I use all body weight now but it is not a bad idea to incorporate a good weight program. A lot of pros do. Hopefully some of this helps or you get feedback from others. Good luck.
This is some of the best advice i've seen.

I walk about at 150 so I should fight at 141?

Do you feel drained when you cut that much for a fight or you feel perfect?

The first time I dropped weight it was ALL wrong. I wasnt sure I had a match until the week of. At the time I was like 149 and my trainer called me in at 141. I drained my body out eating fruits and using protein shakes as meal replacements. I dropped weight in about 5 days... Not advised to follow that pattern. I definitely felt the difference my legs felt like noodles the day of weigh ins. I didnt feel comfortable till the second time I dropped weight. If you give yourself enough time to drop the weight then Id say go for it. You know your body better than ne one though, drop weight during training before testing it in a match, see if your power and legs are still there then go from there. Thats my advice.

Your walk around weight is pretty much the same as me. 153-156 for me and I fight at 140. Whats your height?

One more question for you guys: Before I hit the gym, what type of gloves do I need? Using the gloves the gym will provide does not sound too.. hygenic. But that's just me.

Do I need these two types: Heavy Bag, Training?

                    Or Do I need more?
