  • Best Jump Roper for beginners...

I'm taking boxing classes at a local gym (a real boxing gym not Bally's) or something and class is a mix of skilled boxers that actually get in the ring to fight and a few of us that are there because we love it but we'll never enter the ring. Anyway -for warmups those that can jump rope and the other do jumping jacks and mountain climbers etc. I'd like to get to where I can jump rope -so I picked up a rope at my target to try to do this at home and it was bad -the rope ****** AND I ******.

So I started looking into rope and I'm totally confused by bearings, weighted handles, beads etc.

So here's my question -anyone have a rope they can recommend for a total novice on the jump roping? I'm 5' 4" so that is a consideration too.

Go to Sports Authority and get the "speed jump rope" they have there. they come in like green, blue and red I think. They are cheap, like $5 plus tax.

You really don't need anything else. They are great because they are cheap, you can adjust them by cutting them or tying a knot at the end and they last a long time.

When measuring a rope, you should step on the middle of it, holding the two handles together and they should go up a little past your shoulder, that's the length you should need.

As far as learning to jump rope like a boxer, it takes time and rhythm. Just keep practicing and don't give up, you will get it eventually even if you never jump rope like Floyd Mayweather Jr, then again who does?

Here's their listing and I don't see anything like that: but I can's post the link yet

I have a Reebok one but I think the annoyance is that the rope attaches to the handle in an annoying way

I think I've seen the ones you are talking about -so you are saying I have no need to worry about bearings?

Is there any way to know the size without actually stepping on the rope -I do a lot of online shopping a la amazon!
