  • Constructive criticism for my Sparring video?

    Hi all,

This is my first post on the forum, hopefully of many!

I started boxing around 6 months ago, and am looking for some constructive criticism in order to improve as a boxer.

    My physical stats are;
    Age: 22
    Height: 5'10
    Weight: 73kg

In the video I'm sparring against two other fighters in the gym (2 rounds each).

I'm wearing the grey top and white gloves.

(Had to split up the link as I'm unable to post a link due to not having more than 15 posts, so just remove the three spaces)

Would really appreciate it if some of you could watch the video and give me some tips to improve.

Also, apologies for the daft chat at times over the video, just my mates having a laugh

    Thanks in advance.

Just out of curiosity, who was has first guy you sparred with that looked like a malnourished Kevin Federline? Does he have more or less experience than you?

lol his name is John ****, he's prodominantly a thai boxer who has recently taken to boxing. He's been doing Thai for about 7 years, so he's pretty experienced in that sense.

snap your punches out there like a whip.bring your fist back to your chin, alot of times you threw the jab and dropped it to your waist instead of bringing it right back. upper body movt is good, but i would like to see you use less of it. you waste alot of energy weaving when you dont need to. its something that comes through alot of sparring though. go to the body in combination. example would be a jab body jab head right hand head or jab head jab body right hand head. make sure you are changing levels when you throw your body shots as well.

k stopped it again to say this lol..when u jab..ur too str8 up...lean a lil to left most importantly make sure that shoulder is protecting ur chin at the end of ur jab ur chin should basicly b touching and buried in ur armpit for lack of better description lol ur shoulder should b coveren up basicly from ur temple down then bring it right back quick...as of now tho u throw the jab ur still in easy position to get countered....k ima go back to watchen now lol

k stopped it again lol...this time i've noticed for almost 3 minutes...u have barely if any moved to ur right...u've circled left the whole time...it seems ima have to keep watchen to make sure but it appears u also need to step to the right as well to circle sure youve taken a step or two but i see u headen left most often...

-good head movement but keep your weight centered or more forward
-be aware that you tend to keep your weight shifted back when taking shots for too long
                    -good counter keep sharpening them
-use more angles on the inside shuffle left and right to set it up
-snap punches more often because when you actually do, they land real well
-take advantage more often when opponent finishes a combo and stands there
-don't back up straight all the time circle out especially when defending against flurry
                    -cut off the ring
-if your opponent is going to go in and out make sure to come forward if he steps back and does nothing
-take advantage of your counter jabs especially when they land don't just admire it
-don't go super overboard with your habit of swinging your lift arm like crazy for your rhythm because it can lead to being timed. if it works for you fine but just be aware of it so you don't get timed
-overall you looked excellent for 6 months. just keep listening to your coaches and keep pushing yourself and you're gonna be real good
-i really like your counter jab, thats not something all newbies can grasp right away and use in sparring.
-your hook and counter hooks are real nice too
-last comment is to keep practicing more combos to use because it seems as though you have a choice few that you like to use. learn new ones and some long ones and try to incorporate them.
-kudos man i can't stress how good you look but dont let it get to your head heh. keep training hard and dont stop raising the bar.
