Human body can (in a healthy way) lose 2 lbs of fat a week. If you want to go as hard as you can, a 1000 calorie deficiet a day will burn that 2 lbs a week in theory. So, 2 1/2 stones = 35 lbs, 35 divided by 2 = 17.5, so 17.5 weeks if it is pure fat you want burned off.

An increase in lean muscle mass burns more calories even when they are resting. Lifting also increases heart rate and releases testosterone and HGH, which naturally is beneficial to weight loss and strength.

When you work out in the morning it makes the entire day better, but from a weight loss alone standpoint, considering there isnt much food energy to burn, your body only has itself to burn. And, if you ride slow, for say, anywhere from 15-30 minutes, that will give a good start to the day for the heart, and burn a fat while you are at it.

Either way though, if you burn 1000 calories more than you are taking in, you are on the right track.
