Also they have the experience and ability to break a lot of rules someone whos starting out needs to follow.
What? When Tyson first started boxing, within in a week, he was watching old fight tapes of the likes of Jack Johnson and Micky Walker.

Jean Pascal and Andre Dirrel were studying fight tapes of Roy Jones when thet first started boxing.

If your watching some of the best of all time, of course it will help you. As you will pick up on little thing's they do and you can learn from them.

And that's why you are watching them, due to them being world class and having so much expreince.......

Usually it does matter what age you start boxing.

All the people you named are exceptions. I didn't say it was impossible, just unlikely and it takes lots of ability and hard work.
No. I know lots of fighters who started at a young age, and were extremly dedicated and stuck around for years, but still werent no good.

You completely disregarded what I said. Those fighters often break rules a beginner always needs to follow.

For instance, if a guy starts boxing, and spars for the first time, and drops his hands and tries to slip and slide like Sweet Pea does, he's gonna get cracked and probably knocked on his ass. That's because Sweet Pea trained and practised for years to be able to move his head like that, and he ingrained basic technique first. He didn't just see it on an old fight tape, walk into a gym and start doing it.

There's a saying in boxing: "You gotta know the rules before you break them"

eg: You need to get experience and have a solid grounding in the basics before you start to break rules and do advanced things.

Great Boxer Aged 25 (Training for 5 years) >> Good boxer Aged 25 (Training for 15 years)

                    ---

There's a point where Experience can only give you so much edge.
