Take the 620 calories and divide by 110 calories per mile for running and you get 5.63 miles of running to burn the same number of calories. Therefore, riding a bicycle 20 miles at an average 15 miles per hour is equal to running 5.6 miles at any speed."

Biking is better than nothing but I prefer running. Also I'm curious, how does biking work your quads and hams more? Running would work your legs a lot more form what I know.

Edit: I'm seeing in some places that biking may target quads more
You can make anything as taxing as you want. Go for a nice long ride into the wind and tell me how untaxing it is. Your legs will be on fire. I feel you can work out harder on a bike because if you are running, when you hit a certain level of fatigue, your form will go to to hell and you are much much more likely to injure yourself, be it stress fractures, tripping, or rolling an ankle.

On a bike, you can absolutely run yourself into the ground to the point where you can barely walk when you get off the bike.

Not mention, you get legs like these.

I use the machine. I always feel better after that than an ordinary run.

You can get beast legs from running, theres one dude on my track team whos legs are pretty cut for someone who doesn't lift. Also to make it more taxing you have to ride considerably longer, riding in a wind vs running uphill, uphill would work your legs more. I've biked a fair amount with a friend and I felt the soreness mostly above my knee, but running hard for a good amount of time makes me much sorer.

I get bored very quickly on the treadmill.
I love running to the river and soaking in the view.

Used to have a treadmill of my own and used to run 10 milers all the time on it .They're a good bit of kit and even tho £800 still don't regret it .Both are good I think , done plenty of road running as well from 1.5m right up to about 18 mile .

'F l i c k e r' gave the only reason why I'd consider running inside, other than that, all outside. I'd also mix it with swimming, that's a great exercise for everyone to do if they can swim.

No comparison. Running on the treadmill is boring as hell. Running outside especially around some nice area is much better and doesn't bore me.

                    i run inside.

i find it easier to push myself faster on a treadmill rather than outside.

hitting the button to go slower on the treadmill, to me, has almost become heresy unless i'm done with the run.

that and, have you guys ever try to run on a saturday morning, weekday afternoon in DC?? you get tired of shouting "left" and just start clipping people ... and that WILL get beef started.

                    ****en tourists.

Outside has way too many advantages that the others like cycling are worthless.
