Aye Dynamite. Your not too old brah. You just can't waste time right now. You gotta get pro fights asap. One fight every month, depending on damage. Until you reach the 8 and 10rnd fights.
Its what you gotta do, you will get paid **** at first but you gotta make due with what ya got. After 10 fights (hopefully/should be all wins if your really good) thats when you may get some real money challanges.

I've always loved contact sports. Started practicing judo and basketball when i was 3 years old and went on to be national champ of judo and up to brown belt. I gave up on judo because my trainer (an olympian) got ****ed up in front of me and was left on a wheel chair, so I thought that this wasn't what I wanted with my life.
I was in a fight about 4 years ago and ended up leaving 5 guys on the floor, although my lips, neck and cheeks got lots of punishment. I though damn, I did this just with judo (close combat)... what would've happened if I learned how to fight form the outside?
Later on I caught up with judo and ended the belts and went to my college's team. I've gotten only in 2 more fights and left untouched. They weren't with 5 guys at a time lol, but I used judo again mostly.
I'm practicing boxing and I'm doing pretty good, but for street fighting I never manage to end up using boxing. Judo is sooo much better for fighting against people, but it requires to get up close and that means having to risk taking a punch or two.
I have to admit though... boxing is a lot more fun than judo! Just not as effective when you're fighting outside of the ring. I had a fight against a guy that boxed and he got me with 8 punches that I partially blocked for the most part, then I closed the distance and threw him HARD to the floor.
So yeah... I started boxing for the wrong reasons, expecting it to help me for fighting. It's more fun than other sports, but IMO not nearly as affective as martial arts for "real" fighting.

part my judo training consists of increasing my dashing speed, which is done by clinging a 180-200 guy on my back and running 200 meters with him 20 times. i'm pretty good at getting in close while blocking AND dodging punches
i don't know about the end result on a brawl vs you, but have you ever fought against 5 guys at the same time and left them all on the floor? that's the only fight that i've taken hits in my life and i never was even close to being on the floor once
i've done boxing for 3.5 years, so i may not be great at it, but have had enough practice to know the basics and compare its effectiveness in a real fight with the effectiveness of judo. judo for street fights is far, far better than boxing. one move and you got the guy on the floor out cold, no matter if you executed in perfectly or not
EDIT: i'll post my training regimen (just the judo one):
- stretching exercises
- 20 sprints with a guy 180-200 pounds for 200 meters
- 600 push ups
- 300 sit ups
- 250 sit ups (right)
- 250 sit ups (left)
- wide rope exercises (i have a hard time describing it, so i'll try to find a vid of it)
- 600 "abdominals" (that's how we call them in spanish; 300 right, 300 left)
- 300 squats with no weight
- 100 weighed squats
- practice fight with 2 partnersLast edited by fdotorres; 07-06-2009, 08:01 PM.

Put your money where your mouse is. Post some vids or at least some stills.
I'm not hatin', I'm just trying to separate the men from the boys around here.
Man, this place needs a mod.

also...nothing is wrong with canoeing, don't rip on **** you haven't done. It is effective for boxing if you do it right. Paddling against a strong current is no joke. I'm done arguing with you in this thread though, sorry to say. Arguing with a man full of regret (you) is like pissing in the wind...but at least boxing gave you that one picture with your scary face and black eye, right?
Later, and stop being so damn bitter. Life's too short for that ****. You're 38, that means you only have about 30 years left until you're a limp noodle. (which, you already are, according to your pic, imho) I suggest you enjoy it in peace.
You won a match? Got any video of that, what was the guy's record, etc? Did you join a gym, train, spar, win one match and quit? Not that I really care. Finally, your 'scary face' cracks me up.Last edited by Dynamite Glove; 07-06-2009, 08:29 PM.
