also i heard there standard grip hose is kind of huge , did you ask for a smaller size grip hose or did you just leave the standard one ? if you just left the standard one how was it ?
To tell you the truth, I don't know what the strap is for. I should have just asked for the lace up. I also read that the hoze is huge from somebody else and I ordered half size hoze. Yo can also order an even smaller hoze, if you wish.

        help?

This thread had nothing to do with Winning; but just like half the other guys who buy Winning, you came running out with your pants around your ankles to pimp their gear.

Cheap? I'm sorry, maybe it comes from having grown up in Japan and seen them jack up the prices on stuff like shoes - $230 for $100 Nikes, $200 for a $45 pair of Levis.

The stuff's not hand made and half of it (like their $370 head gear) isn't even leather.
What part of $120 for frigging bag mitts makes any sense?

Yes, I'll admit, they've got nice foam.
A good buddy of mine's a trainer and been boxing since he was a kid, can't tell a noticeable difference between his old Winnings and his new Fightings.
So I doubt they can be that unique and special.

Can't decide if you guys pimping Winning gear really do live & die by the stuff, or just need to make yourselves feel better about paying 2 to 4 times over market value for gear.
I heard people pimping Cletos left and right before I finally spent the cash on them & hated them.

Meanwhile, I AM interested in a discussion of Shevlin gloves.
I've liked the look of them for almost 2 years now and am seriously considering a custom pair.
Flamenco's one of the only folks I've come across who's bought any.

I'd like to find out about their options for better wrist support.
I'd like to find more about the leather strap w/ velcro vs elastic strap w/velcro vs laces vs laces + leather strap w/velcro & which is the way to go.
If a mexican-style ribbed cuff or the double strap, extra long cuff would make a difference.
I'd like to know if they put a 16oz sticker on the gloves when he got 16oz of foam in a 14oz profile.
I'd like to know if he'd do anything different if he ordered from them a second time.

Instead, I gotta deal with repeated attempts at thread hijack.

From my conversations with the contact at Shevlin, its sounds as if ANYTHING can be customized. It's not really that the wrist support is bad, but the Casanovas are MUCH better. You should ask Michelle over there what the can do about wrist support. Also, you wont be sparring with the shevlins if you get the velcrow strap. They are not rounded off and the velcrow could easily cut someone.

Someone else at the other forum has some Shevlin gloves that he tried to get the ribbed cuff for but they made it wrong. Instead of making it ribbed, they just put stitches. I'm sure from speaking to them that they can do the ribbed cuff if you just ask for it and not the stitched cuff.

My only real gripe with the gloves is it ripped in the thumb area, but they fixed it right away.

I remember that guy saying that. I asked him and he said that they've fixed it and that they are, in fact, ribbed now.

Sounds like the mexican style ribbed cuff with laces is the way to go for the competition.

i seen what the post you guys are talking about .. on sherdog right ? that first attempt at a ribbed cuff was a joke lol wich was odd because in their pictures of their gloves they have a proper tripple ribbed cuff on one of the sets of gloves .

id still love to know what the heck that strap is for , i swear i seen somewhere that it was a velcro strap but i guess not , weird.

That first attempt at the ribbed cuff was like in 2006, so I think the new one's more recent.

It is a velcro strap, but having laces and velcro's kinda strange - like a pre-attached glover's assistant with all the hassles of both laces & velcro.

Almost bought some Flores the other day from EBay. A lot of people say that Flores are the best gloves ever made. Unfortunately the seller got a better offer privately and took 'em down.

Were the Flores gloves new or used?

Used, but I think the pictures were recent & they still looked in good shape.

Hey, you know anything about Legacy Boxing?
The guy who patented thumbless gloves, who's also the grandson of the guy who started Everlast is hand-making old-fashioned custom gloves in New York.
The company also refurbishes old leather sports equipment like baseball gloves.
The training gloves look like a cross between Shevlin & old TufWear, with new mutilayer foam fill and the lace ups have the wine color from Fight of the Century.
I emailed the guy and am thinking about giving them a shot.

EDIT: forgot to mention they have a 2 year warranty

Yeah I checked out the website when I realy realy wanted the Flores gloves, but then I read somewhere that the guy won't make you gloves unless you order in bulk.

Regarding the Flores gloves, I actually got Dan Mosby to talk to me for a real long time, seemed like an hour. He didn't seem to like the way the gloves these days are being made. Told me some stories of some custom gloves he made for Julio Cesar Chavez. He also gave me some tips on wrapping my hands with the huge pocket Mexican gloves seem to have. The conversation ended with him asking me to email him an outline of my hand with a ruler on the side. I haven't heard from him since. I hope he's ok.
