  • Wide stance

My stance seems to always catch people's attention. So, story goes; I learn to box, learn the shoulder width apart, etc. etc. etc. eventually I end up in another gym whilst back home from Uni' for the summer and a coach shows me a wider stance, he says it'll help me keep the weight in the center, which he claims is preferable to on the back or front leg. That also differed from my gym when i'm at Uni' because a coach would say 80% of bodyweight on the back leg. So, as you can imagine I was getting confused and a bit pissed off that different coaches were being insistent that I followed their guidelines. Now, however, no matter how hard I try to do the shoulder-width, it's uncomfortable and I naturally make it wider again, I feel as if I have more power and much sturdier, i've also noticed I can move around quicker. I don't think of it as wide, it doesn't feel wide, it just feels natural. People seem to pick up on it and quite a few have asked me if i've done kick-boxing in the past.

Any of you have a wider stance or know anything about it?

You will have more power with the shorter stance.

They are natural punchers anyway and Tito's was short enough for me. it is hard to tell what the thread starter is actually on about without seeing his stance! This thread really is useless without pics/photos

Mayweather has a pretty wide stance... The main thing really is that you can quickly get out of range because you dont gotta step

get comfortable with both, there's no right or wrong. there are pros and cons to both stances. effectively varying ur stance in a fight can be extremely hard to deal with. everyone has their own way of doing things so i try to pick up as much as i can and work it into the way i fight

Pacquiao has a really wide stance, so did Foreman and Tyson when they sat down on their punches. Tito had a short stance, so does Marquez and Barrera.
