I've never been rocked before because I've never let anybody know I got "rocked" or bothered by the blow.....That's part of boxing

Getting rocked?

I've been rocked several times and it only bothers me if I am already tired out.
I have been hit with shots after 6-7 rounds of sparring that were nothing special that turned my legs to jello.
I have been hit twice as hard in the 1st round and walked through it.

been off my feet once in a bout, wasnt particularly hurt just screwed up my footwork and got caught with a right hand straight down the middle. been buzzed a fair number of times, mostly sparring once in the ring, almost always straight rights as im a southpaw and that tends to be what i get hit with.

Originally posted by ScottDBA View Posthehe, same kinda thing happened in my last fight. I was fighting a guy from the club that was putting on the show, so the crowd was behind him. He landed a couple shots that snapped my head back/around. I took them with no effect and was fine, but the crowd still cheered as if I was on the verge of being knocked out.
In the first 20 seconds of the fight I hit him with a right hand that wobbled his legs and made him grab on to me which got him an eight count, and the crowd was totally silent. lol.

I take pride from it because it didn't bother me after the initial impact and I surprised my other coach by saying let's finish the round.
I remember another time, it didn't stun me or rock me or anything but it did take my mind off the fight. So i'm sparring, everything's going well, and I take a shot which you to be honest when sparring doesn't really register, but then there's this immense lingering pain and my brain instantly goes "what the **** is that?", and I continue to fight but then it must have been a good 1-2 seconds before I realised he straight righted me in the ****ing neck! Luckily it wasn't clean, that's why we keep our chin down, it must have gone through my jaw pushed my head aside and into my throat because I imagine if i'd have taken a clean right to the neck i'd have been choking so that's my conclusion. But it was a weird experience, 'cus I wasn't sure what happened, just that something was hurting and it wasn't a usual pain, then I realised it was my throat.
yeah i hear getting hit in the throat is a *****, never happened to me though , must be a hard shot to land

i was told we tuck our chins in because the point of your chin is very vulnerable, especially when it's raised or something like that
also leaves you less open to jaw shots too

With shoulders f rward, it is hard to land a hook on a tucked chin. With a tucked chin it is easier to take punches without having your head snap back. With a tucked chin, you are less likely to get caught on the chin with a massive uppercut that spins your head around.
With your chin tucked, even if you get hit on the chin, there is less room for movement and your head will not get spun as much.

Taking a heavy hit can result in any number of consequences. This is boxing and inevitably your are going to get hit no matter how much you try to avoid it. To minimize the damage you need to strengthen your neck muscles. A good boxing trainer will monitor your neck muscle training. A good trainer will also carp on at you about keeping your chin down. When your chin is down, it is much easier to absorb the force of the punch through the neck muscles.
The three rules of defense are chin down, guard up, move your head. If you observe these rules you won't take many heavy hits.

I have never been hurt or rocked by a punch...yet. I am not saying this to brag because nobody is invincible, but i am a heavyweight and a sparred some very hard punchers and never had a problem.
I also got hit with a baseball bat right on the side of my skull and i wasnt dizzy, the pain was awful though. I also got a 40oz beer broke over my head, was fine too, but i remember stopping for a second and asking myself "Am i hurt" The answer was "No."
