  • Losing weight

    Hi guys

I have been doing amateur boxing for 2 months. I weigh 88.5KG and are 6FT tall.

I also do judo and fight in the 81KG weight catagory also usually weigh around 78KG for fights and have weighed as little as 76KG for a fight.

My coaches tell me I should be looking to fight at either 80KG or 75KG.

    I currently run 2 miles 3 times a week.

    So heres my questions:

    1. How far should I be running and how often ?
    2. What should I be eating to lose weight ?
    3. When should I be eating ?
    4. What other exercises should I be doing outside the gym ?

    Thanks

when i lose weight i load up my fridge on fish and chicken. that is the only meat i have in the fridge when training i also stock up on eggwhites. i for carbs i only have veggies. (i fill my plate with veggies) or sometime not very often ill have quaker oatmeal in the morning. i dont eat anything after 7 pm. i drink a proten shake about 2-3 times a day. but i will uses it as a meal in the morning and post training.some people say proteins casues you to gain weight but since you are on a low calorie diet for trying to lose weight it will help with perserving the muscle. ( u can use creatine with it but it might cause you to gain some weight so i would avoid it.) when in traing i dont drink nothing with water no juices wat so ever. i get all my minerals and vitamins from just for men vitamins. i eat about my weight times x 10 in calores. but if you feel ur starving feel free to grab some chicken or fish aslong its before 7 pm. after 7 pm its not that ur starving its your body having its natural night craving if this happens i tend to drink alot of water. i also use green t extract (the brand is mega t it can be found in almost any drug store) you can defently lose 20+ pounds with this and traing and the diet.

when i run 3 miles atleast in the summer. in the winter ill run in the snow but if i dont feel like its ill run 3 miles on a treadmill with the incline all the way up.

    good luck

Great advice, I was looking for tips also. I'm 5'10'' and I weigh 168lbs. I've real thin all my life and the past few years my metabolism has slowed (I'm 23). I got some running shoes and I'm going to start running 2-3 miles 5 times a week. On top of it I'm going to cut out all the bad food.

lol, you think you're thin at 5'10 and 168lbs, I'm 5'10 and 158 (atleast that's what I was a couple days before Christmas, who knows what I am now). I need to lose weight to get down to 152 for the first week of February.

When I was your age I ran 5 or 10 miles a day. Keeping my weight down was never a problem.

if your looking to lose weight dont run 5 miles or even 3 miles ..... sprints lots of sprints... carry a stopwatch around and start out slow began with a jog i say jog 1/4 of a mile then jog for 30 seconds then sprint for 5.. again you could probably sprints for longer but do this atleast a week then step it up to 10sec 20sec ...etc....

I meant that I've always been thin growing up. My metabolism slowed down the past few years & I'm at 168 right now. Meaning that I need to get in shape & make an effort to get down to my natural weight range (147-155). I'm out of shape because up till the past couple years I've never had to run or watch what I eat & my weight stayed low.
Metabolism isn't bailing me out anymore so now I have to compensate by eating right, running & working out more.

The key to losing weight steadily and healthily is to just eat right and exercise on a regular basis. By eating right, you should not eat any processed foods (that includes things you buy in the store that's packaged or comes from the deli department, candy, junk food, **** like that). Try not to eat bread and stay away from carbs if you can. Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, and lean meat (boiled, oven roasted with no oil, or steamed - with no added salt if you can). Drink only water. Honestly, although it seems hard at first, you will get used to it very quickly as you will see tremendous changes (positive) in your overall well-being.

As for exercise, you should just be doing some cardio, and, if not cardio, something that works up a sweat. Running - although good - is not the only way to lose weight as many people on these forums tend to think. If you do bodyweight exercises, jump rope, swim, do boxing training, etc. on a regular basis, you will lose weight. You have to remember that the key to losing/gaining weight is calorie control, and, quite frankly, running does not burn as many calories as many people think. A one mile run at a brisk pace will probably burn at most 300, maybe 350 calories. Nonetheless, if you want to run, there is nothing wrong with it. It is just not the magic remedy to weight loss.

On a side note, if you want to lose weight very quickly, say, about 5 pounds in a week, this diet works for me. I eat about 3 apples, 2 pears, and 2 oranges in a day, and drink about a gallon to two or water. During that period I do a lot of bodyweight exercises, ab workouts, and possibly some swimming. This past week, I was on this diet for 2.5 days and lost 6 pounds. It was very hard, but if it must be done, that diet has worked for me.

                Best of luck.

                  very good

this guys defintely knows his **** about diet, listen to him

that fruit diet is a bit drastic but would work well if you needed to get a few lbs off for a fight or whatever
