  • Boxing Training Basics

    Hey all -
As somebody who's interested in getting into boxing (not in an extremely competitive sense), can you point me in the right direction to learn about training?

    Thanks.

Go to a gym and get instruction from an expert.

Go to a gym, it's not expensive. I know this is the one answer you don't want but it's the only real answer. Buying a punch bag, going running, doing bodyweight exercises, etc, yeah they're all good, do them too, but go to a gym.

Watching boxing and trying to teach yourself on the punch bag wont teach you a damn thing until you at least know the physics of boxing and the basics of boxing. Besides, you're not boxing if you do it by yourself, you're just doing exercise. Don't care if you wear an Everlast T-shirt while you train, I don't care if you get a mike tyson tattoo on your face, you're not boxing until you go to a boxing gym.

there is very few guys that can become decent boxers training on there own but it can be done. first off you have to have a gym. whether it be in your garage or basement or whatever. and i mean a real gym not just a bag. second, you need to learn somewhere whether it be the web, or a book, or whatever. third you need to find sparring to get your skills to the next level. you also have to be comitted. but if your talking about competing you have to have a licensed trainer. good luck
